Maindealer Servicing Costs??

Does anyone know how much I should be paying for a maindealer service @ 130k it's only a minor/intrim service. Was quoted £240 @ Volkswagen Maindealer?? & was quoted around £160ish @ a couple of VW specialists. But was keen to keep up with the VW mainSTEALER stamps in the book. Was wondering how much any of you guys out there paid for this service? What you had done & When & where?? Any help will be appericated - Thanks.

Go to a private garage mate, they can still stamp your book and it still be valid, as well as it being cheaper. Are you able to do the service yourself?

 

Gallon of oil £25 for synta gold - or equivalent.

Oil filter - £5

air filter -

spark plugs - not sure on price but not expensive.

 

Will take no longer then half hour to change the oil filter and air filter.

I know it's not what you're asking.. but..

 

I don't see the point in getting the servicing done at VW for the sake of a VW stamp in the book vs a VW Specialists stamp - e.g. Stealth, DG Autotech.. to anyone with half a clue about these cars, a service at a specialist is worth far far more than letting some monkey at VW do the job - they're only going to give it to the YT kid anyway, as it's "just an old car" :|

Indeed ^ £250 for a small job, probably done badly or not as good as it could be. Wouldnt trust the dealers to work on my car personally.

wouldn't say that entirely fair on the dealers. i guess it depends on your own experience with them. i work for redditch volkswagen as a service tech and we occasionally get older stuff in (like corrados, mk1/mk2 golfs etc) and it's always given to a master tech. but obviously being a dealer it is expensive. like jim said if all you're paying for is the stamp, then just go to a reputable specialist. to anyone who knows what they're looking at it will hold the same 'stamp value'

I'm surprised at £250 for what is basically an oil change, screen wash top-up and inspection of the vehicle. I've just had one done at a dealers for £102 inclusive of oil, filter, screenwash and general inspection. This did not include airfilter or pollen filter. That comes in at about £160 if thats done as part of the service. Oil capicity differences would amount to 5.5 litres of oil instead of 4 litres which adds about £12.

 

I think you need to ask the dealer what they intend to do for £250. The Corrado VR6 is not exceptional.

When I used the dealers in the first 5 years of the Corrado's life, I used take in my own oil and ask them to use that. The Service Desk/Workshop ever had any problem with that. After that I've always serviced my C. according to the VW Service Manual Schedule.

i stopped paying for servicing at about 150,000miles and started doing it myself, i didn't think the cost of servicing was adding any value to a high mileage car

I've never bought them from VW, i was more suggesting getting them else where other then VW - maybe i didnt make that clear enough. But can get Mann air and oil filters for that amount. How much do VW charge.

oh and im told its the synta gold thats no longer available. They now use that diesel/petrol oil long life stuff.

It may be sacralige, but when I gave the car a service myself last month, I updated the service book with the mileage and date that I did it. I'm not trying to pass it off as a 'reputable' service, more of a record that the service was done so I know for next time.

 

With regards to VW service items prices, the VR stuff is obviously a bit more expensive, but I did the oil and filter on the MK2 16v using items bought from VW a couple of months ago, and it came to under £20 for the oil (Synta Silver), filter and sump plug washer, after discount

This is what I'll be doing, but clearly marking it as a self service in the book. I'll also be keeping the invoices for the service parts in a service folder so they can be cross referenced easily. In truth I'll actually be doing more service parts on the car because of the saving over a VAG service (e.g. fuel filter, gearbox oil, etc that I wouldn't be doing if the garage had to do it) .
