A/C Removal, Need a bracket and pulley in place of compressor?

I am removing the air conditioning out of my '90 G60, I was just wondering when the compressor is removed if a bracket and pulley is needed to keep the stock position of the belt so there is no interference or if I could just run a shorter belt and everything be fine?

on the vr you use a shorter belt, i would assume the same in G60.
