Have I lost a bit of door?

Having replaced the door handle striker I find myself with a very wobbly handle. Trawling through Google I've found a photo at VWVortex.com showing a white plastic insert that is missing from my door. As VWVortex looks to be an american site, I was wondering if there are differences in door specs between continents, or if I really have lost a white plastic insert.

 

I have found nothing in the bottom of the door except the old broken striker.

 

Is this plastic insert a common part to VW or Corrado specific?
