Things are still a bit sch1tty here, but hopefully the doctor will sign her off for a couple of weeks for her to recoup - the physiological impact seems to be as bad as the physical one at the moment so I really hope she can get over that quickly!

First offer's in already, not surprising considering the brand new all singing and dancing toyota courtesy car on my drive (must admit, I could get used to it - literally all the toys you could imagine!) - Anyway they've come up with £1700 as the valutation, not a bad start IMO!

Seventeen hundred sheets is not a bad place to start at all. Personally I wouldn't take a penny less than two grand. There's a phrase that I use. Coined from my old boss "I don't compromise on price, because then there would be two of us unhappy".

I've sent them a link to the rado you kindly found on Autotrader, listing the differences that would make mine worth a few quid more, apparently they don't take mileage into account when valuing older vehicles, which is silly, I tried explaining that mileage has a huge effect on value with this type of car, but I think I was edging towards 'it's a classic car' territory which will inevitably force the 'you should have insured it as such' reply - so I'm treading carefully :lol:

They have to provide you with financial recompense that gets you to the situation you were in prior to the accident. So they have to give you a value that reflects what they are currently selling for :)

 

When my A6 was written off they offered me £1700, by the end of the conversation I had got them to £2700

Cheers Kip, that's really kind of you, but having never been a member in my 11 years of ownership, it wouldn't be right! :lol:

 

I've had two lengthy conversations with them with regards to value, they have said that due to it being an 8v and not a VR6 or G60 they don't value it at any more than £1700, simple as that. I've been tasked with finding them evidence that it's worth more but frankly it's difficult due to the fact that it's probably not! :lol: If I'm honest, I didn't pay £1700 for it 2 years and 20k miles ago so I'd be quite happy with that as a payout :)

 

I could only find 2 8v's on the market, the black Auto one linked above, and a horribly modded white one for £900 or something, hardly worth using as an example!

Well they're sticking to their £1700, they won't accept the auto one on autotrader as it's got different transmission therefore it's not the same - regardless of whether it makes mine worth more or not.

 

They're going to ring me next friday if I cant email more evidence of manual 8vs for sale at more than £1700, I think if none have come up for sale by that point I'll have to just accept it :lol:

Yeah, I was pretty shocked when she came out with it, was expecting more like £700 than £1700! I don't think i'll be able to get any more out of them though which is shame as it goes against my nature to take the first offer from anyone! :lol:

Well, thought I'd pop on and update the thread. 4 months on, my missus is starting back at work today, doing a phased return starting with 2 hours a day - she's still basically either in constant pain or off her head on pain killers, still hasn't been able to pick up our son or carry out menial tasks like using a washing machine, hoovering, shopping etc etc since, unbelievable :(

 

We've had to cancel 2 holidays, and basically adjust our whole way of life because of the accident. The doctors have said that she may never actually fully get back to being the healthy young Mum and professional woman she was before matey decided to take a detour onto the wrong side of the road :( It's all been a bit shcitt tbf! She's done extensive damage to every muscle in her back, which is pretty debilitating to say the least.

 

As much as the rado did well for a car of it's age, I think it's fair to say that the amount of physical damage she sustained would have been reduced significantly had she been in something newer and safer like the Audi we replaced the rado with :(

I am sorry to hear of the problems your wife is having. I think anyone who has been involved in a serious impact accident will agree, it takes a long long time for the body to right itself to anywhere near fixed. And unfortunately even then there will be weakness in the damaged area.

I was hit from behind 20+ years ago and it doesn't take much for my left shoulder/neck to stiffen up and cause discomfort. For the first few years I would regulary put my neck 'out' and not be able to turn my head. Last time it's done that was 6 years ago (I remember as it was the first time I came up north to visit Kip :) ) but that was still 15 years after the accident and I had never had any problems before.

 

I am sure she is getting all the help she can with getting 'fixed' and I hope things improve soon.

 

But re being better off in a newer /safer car.. I don't agree. It doesn't matter what you get whacked in, your body still gets thrown about through some seriously bad forces. Side impact airbags etc are not nice soft things to bounce against and your body still gets thrown about in ways it is not designed for.

cant see the pics as they have been deleted??? but at the end of the day i am not a purist and as far as i can see a corrado is a corrado and should be cherished as such i may get slated by some for saying that but hey ho enjoy your car whatever it may be

Hey Judith, thanks for the well wishes! I think you're right about there always being a weakness in the damaged area, unfortunately the damaged area is the whole of her back! I also appreciate what you're saying regarding the body taking the brunt of the forces but I think the more there is there to help dissipate those forces the less impact it'll have on the body, which sorta stands to reason! Obviously you're not any more or less likely to have an accident in a newer/safer car but the consequences will be worse the less protection the car gives you, IMO :)

Newby here and the proud new owner of an 8v. Will post images and more background later. Briefly it was a barn find type of set up and I am now getting it back on the road. One thing I have read somewhere and so may be incorrect but isn't the 8v the rarest Corrado, rarer than a Storm as there were only 213 UK examples?

 

So irrespective of it's alleged shortcomings it wins the rarity award!

PS - I have always wanted to own a Corrado. I still have the 1995 brochures from the Motor show of that year and I have never owned one until now. Even now I have never driven one as I bought this one almost unseen on an impulse. I cannot wait to get this one on the road. It was one of the last 50 made making it even more special in my eyes :)

Not quite, but fair play with the research. Welcome to the forum by the way. Get yourself a thread started and bung some pictures up (dusty barnfind warts and all shots etc). Love seeing Corrados taken from basket cases to shining examples. Shortage of resto threads at the moment.

Aqua pearl blue 95k miles full history (in that it was last serviced in 2009 but with 90k on the clock). Yes it was in Surrey. It was quite a prolonged sale as I found out it was cat d'd in 2006 after handing out the deposit. The dealer subsequently very sensibly offered a discount to cater for this lack of information in the sales process. However, it was just parked at the time and someone ran into it with just the bumper and lights needing replacing. It was mainly owned by a lady from Enfield who I am about to call to get a better background on the car. Chassis is S003993 and so very late in the production run - I figured in the last week of manufacturing.

 

Condition - totally original and absolutely no rust, amazing really. I'll maybe start a thread with some pics. Today it goes to the specialist garage to get it back on the road. I have owned Audi Quattros and an RS2 and so have had the need for speed but this is just something else and I am gobsmacked they are such value at the moment. I cannot see Corrados not appreciating eventually.
