Marshall936 0 Posted February 24, 2012 How easy is it to change a p/s belt on a 16v? Looking to do it later tonight if its as easy as undoing a tensioner and swapping them over! Which I'm hoping is the case :-) any info or tips very welcome. Thanks!
davidwort 0 Posted February 24, 2012 somewhere I did a how-to, it's not difficult, but there are a few bolts on the pump body bracket you need to loosen and also the long bolt the whole pump assembly swings on, where it connects to the alternator bracket at the front
Marshall936 0 Posted February 24, 2012 Cheers mate, just had a look and that all makes sense. Only problem is the belt I ordered looks far too small when measured up against it to be the right one :-(
davidwort 0 Posted February 24, 2012 Length of the old one should be printed on the back?
Rustynuts 0 Posted February 24, 2012 Should be, but if it is really old it has probably weathered off. Once you get under there it should be all self evident. One top tip is to turn the engine over if you can't get the belt on by hand, ie get it on as far as you can and then rotate engine on the key (disconnect dizzy cap so it does not start), sometimes the belt might come off, but it can also spin it on too. Marshall936 0 Posted February 24, 2012 I'll check it out in the light tomorrow, getting my cambelt done next week, reckon it might be worth getting the garage to do that at the same time, won't be any more labour so just a tenner extra for the part?
