porki 0 Posted February 26, 2012 Are you wanting to keep the sunroof functionality or just looking to lose weight? I think I'm doing a similar thing to you and I've had a steel plate made up to blank the sunroof aperture totally as its all about the car diet!! VR6 0 Posted February 26, 2012 ...... its all about the car diet!! If that was true, you would use carbon fibre rather than steel ;) hehe
corradlo 0 Posted February 26, 2012 im looking to keep a working sunroof, a carbon roof will be the next step. but for this season, i like the option of keeping the sunroof... its also less wiring, as im running a striiped down loom already, im also trying to get rid of electric windows for manual ones. porki 0 Posted February 26, 2012 @VR6 .. Agreed but I'm also a financial tight arse and 17 stone, one has to realise that there's only so much you can do The manual windows is a great idea, I was just gonna go with Perspex as its not a daily at all but that would be a good compromise. I didn't know you could get a C with keep fit windows!!
VR6 0 Posted February 26, 2012 Ah ha - the username makes a bit of sense in that case! Step away from the pies

porki 0 Posted February 26, 2012 I just bought etka, let me load it onto the craptop and in the week I'll try find out if the 8v window bits were C specific or were used else where
Abdul 0 Posted February 26, 2012 I wouldn't mind a manual sunroof. At least it'll be reliable...

VR6 0 Posted February 26, 2012 .... does anybody know if there is a way to make the sunroof manual? All you need is an allen key :)
Erny 0 Posted February 26, 2012 I looke for quite a while for a manual set up, also tried to make my own winding set up but it's hard work to shift. Good alternative to a sheet steel stuck or riveted on your roof is to bond the sunroof panel (minus the inner skin) in place with tiger seal or something like, I did this before I decided to weld my sunroof up. Which went surprisingly well and doesn't look like a crinkle cut crisp,
corradlo 0 Posted February 27, 2012 Porki, thanks for the part number link, i will contact a dealer and see if they are available, with regards to the roof, im sure theres a post on here or vortex about someone using a manual roof mech from a passat?! Making my own may be the only option at the moment...... maybe strip out the motor and put a fine thread into the allen key head to attach some kind of handle? but that wouldnt save much weight. porki 0 Posted February 27, 2012 It would make sense that a passat or golf part would fit but my life is certainly never that easy!! Making your own could work, do you want to keep tilt and slide or would just tilt be ok!? Let me know what the stealers say in those parts!!
