Barrett22 10 Posted April 14, 2012 Hi there guys I'm new to this forum and to corrados:cheers:, i am viewing one next weekend , it is a 91 plate 1.8 16v , is there anything i should be looking out for ? i know a fair bit about cars and i give any car i buy a thorough going over , but i would just like to know what to look out for on this type of car. are their any electrical gremlins or places where rust are common? thank you guys , hopefully i will have some pics posted when i buy it :) lets hope its not a lemon
dumptyboy 0 Posted April 14, 2012 Check all the electrics, sunroof, windows, mirrors and spoiler work as they should, it will save you alot of hassle if they all work as they should. Also check the head lining for mold as this will indicate if the sunroof is leaking. Also check the ABS light goes out after a few seconds from start up, as this is another common fault that can be expensive to repair if you dont know what to look for. And just check the usual places for rust, wheel arches, lower sills etc, and check the battery tray if you can! Hope this gives you a head start. Rob. Barrett22 10 Posted April 14, 2012 thankyou so much I'm really excited to see the car and potentially start driving it. I'm buying it off a mate and i have seen the car already and seems to be in good nick , but i will check all of the above. do all corrados come with ABS? are they generally reliable cars for their age? thanks for all your help Jamie
G-Lad 0 Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) Have a read of this: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html My top tip is to prioritise bodywork. Mechnical things can be cheaply fixed but a rotten rear quarter for example will be a financial burden, imo. Check under the boot carpet, especially on the driver's side, as the filler neck aperture rots. Stick your arm up in the wheel arch to see if it's full of mud. It probably will be, so ideally ask your mate to hose it out. Check again for holes with your fingertips and also check those carpets again in the boot. A 1.8 16v has the bulletproof KR engine so reliability will be good if it's had regular oil changes. Listen for noisy tappets and make sure you're happy with the gearbox, and second gear in particular. Just look out for those dodgy electrical parts like windows, sunroof, spoiler, and the 20year old bits of plastic that love to snap off! Passenger side damp carpets may mean blocked drain holes or worse a leaky heater which means a full dash-out job. good luck!
