AMD Surrey/Woking - worth using?

Recommended Posts

Does ayone have any experience of AMD in Woking? Are they worth using above any other garage for general work?

AMD were very well reputed back around the late 90's early 2000's for VW work, especially the Corrado - they used to know them inside out. Not sure if the same people still work there or they're still as good with them though. Haven't heard much said about them in ages!

Thanks. That's why I asked. I get the feeling that they have become a bit of a franchise. I'm guessing they charge slightly more than an average garage because of their name. I'm happy to pay that if they are still good but for basic servicing I'd only pay it if they still offer a better service than other decent local specialists.

AmD aren't what they used to be. In fact, they are a completely different company now. A friend of mine had some mods done to his MK4 GTI by 'AmD Essex' and they made a right hash of the mapping and gave him completely BS dyno numbers. Stealth had to put everything right and map it properly. Then it made the power and torque it was supposed to and also was more mechanically reliable. AmD Woking may be better, who knows!

They, in common with a lot of other 'tuners' these days, just specialise in pumping modified bits and bytes up the OBD2 port on modern VAGs. Corrados are old school and need old school specialist attention.

I agree totally.

I also had bad experiences with the Bicester based AMD nas they moved onto newer cars - about 7 -8 years ago.
