help what is this !!!!

Recommended Posts

driving down the m4 at the weekend and a rumble noise started and gradually got worse through the journey, best i can explain this is it sounds like there is a lump in the tyre as i am getting a vibration through the steering wheel it's coming from the drivers side front, i've checked the tyre and wheel both seem fine could it be .. cv joint, drive shaft (it doesnt make any noise on full lock so don't think it could be this) or simply the balance weight has fallen off, the noise begins at around 40mph and gets worse with speed, if anyone can help i'ed be well chuffed... :!:

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me.... (and having just driven 400 miles with one that's dodgy on my golf, I know the noise rather well now!  )

Loss of wheel weights makes the steering wheel (and often the whole car!) shake at speed and feel like something's about to fall off... wheel bearings rumble like a constant droaning noise that gets into your skull and tries to make your brain melt...

I´ve got a dodgy wheel bearing at the front drivers side (LHD).

It comes noisy when i press the brake pedal at higher speeds! Boy do i hate that noise!

Not expensive at all, just need more time to change over...

I think if its the wheel bearing the noise is exacerbated when going round a corner, if its wheel balancing then the noise is unaffected by turning

Could be balancing, definitely worth checking but also there's a vibration dampener that's stuck round the driveshaft, a kind of rubber doughnut. It can work its way loose so check that. If it's loose then just cut it off!
