Obd2 Golf Vr6

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Not been on the forum for a while as I was going to break my vr6 corrado due to an engine fault, but was busy with other things and have not got round to it, but today have decided I am going to take it on as a project, more to the point I need to replace the engine and with a little research I think the way to go is put an obd2 golf engine in, so is it a pretty straightforward swap? Would it be the complete wiring/gearbox etc? Mine is a coilpack vr6 if that makes a difference?

Thanks in advance.

Best bet is to check out the obd1 - obd2 conversion thread because it will be exactly the same. Gearbox you can reuse the corrado then you would need to remove all the headlight wiring out the engine loom and swap with the corrado's fusebox - ecu loom.

Glad to hear you are keeping a corrado alive, always sad to hear people are breaking one. But yea, its straightforward if you are handy with a spanner. I always like how people talk about engine swaps as if its no big deal and 'straight forward', I've done loads yet I still consider it a big achievement!

Well, I am a car trader/mechanic and have always loved the corrado so picked up a cheap Vr6 from eBay last year to use myself, only had it for a few days and it developed a knock inside the engine and due to other commitments it has just been stood since November, I have now moved into a new unit where I have ramps and more space etc so now is the time to get back on with it. I may well strip the engine down to see what I can see but failing that will just do a complete swap for a golf running gear with obd2. I have done engine swaps/complete re-shells but only on Mx5s as that is what I specialise in so an engine swap should hopefully not be too bad on one of these as I have all/most the equipment to hand. So if I do want to do the swap all I need is an ebd2 golf vr6 and its all there???

Ahh right, being a mechanic helps then! Basically the 2.8 and 2.9 OBD1 and OBD2 engines are almost exactly the same in terms of the bolt on items, the MAF and ECU changes through the years so they need to match. Like I said though, take a look at the OBD1 - OBD2 conversion thread and consider the work involved as the conversion whilst removing and refitting an engine as everything you need to change is in the conversion thread and anything not mentioned should just be interchangeable.
