Switch to later style heater controls

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to convert from the sliding bar to the later style heater controls?

I think theese are the only thing which really date the interior, apart from possibly the dash board LED status indicators.

Would like to be able to swap to later style, but not at the expense of ruining the function. Will only bother if the final product is literallt completely factory.

Had a mk 3 golf dash put in a mk2 some time ago and the conversion was awful and simply didnt work. Ended up paying to go back to a mk2.

Was a bloody nightmare!

Whilst I am at it, can you retro fit air con?

it can be done but you will need to remove half the dash and get all the parts from the later Dash type including ash try etc as they are slightly different i believe.

The later style heater controls are a pile of flimsy crap! I've had no end of problems with plastic spindles sheering off, and plastic cogs wearing out. If you decide to do the swap make sure you get a new (or nearly new) control unit.

In a few months time I should have a dash and all the controls from a '94 VR6. Mark is right though they are not great. I've got my own reasons for replacing them (bit of a mod I hope 8) ). Once it's done I'll let everyone know and also what bits are up for grabs.
