VR6 Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi

I’ve got a couple of problems with my VR6.

When starting the car either hot or cold it needs to turn over a few times, usually turning for about 5 seconds before it actually starts, is this normal for VR6’s?

The other problem when the car is cold it doesn’t run right, if I give the car the foot and rev it up (when pulling away from roundabout’s and junctions etc) to about 2000-2500 rpm it starts to splutter and nearly stall :( .

Any help would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Hi

Cheers for the replies, a few more questions though?

When you changed this sensor did it help with the starting as well as it not running right when cold? Is there anyway to check it out or is it just get a new one and the last question where about is this on the VR?

Cheers for the help guys

look in front of and just below the coilpack/dizzy, 3 sensors (or 2 if you don't have air con). somethimes has a cover over it.

it's the blue one.

When the engine is hot and idling. Pull the connector off the blue sensor. The engine revs should rise to about 1200 for a second and then fall down again. If there is no change when pulling the sensor, it's dead.

Ok, multimeter time, measuring resistance....

Water temp 10 degrees C = 3000ohm

Water temp 80 degrees C = 300ohm

The 3000 should move consistenly down to 300 as the engine warms up, if not, change the sensor!
