headlight switched to parking lights - fan type noise heard, is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi all I am a newbie and just bought my dream car vr6 mk2 rado. Can anyone tell me if its normal to hear a fan type noise when I turn the parking lights on? If not should I be worried or what could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Sam.

Was it the radiator fan(s)?

The radiator fan can run post engine shut-off if the engine & radiator is still hot.

This isn't linked to whether you have the parking lights on or not - that's purely a coincidence.

They can fail to switch off however - I believe there's a temperature-controlled switch that's at fault then.

Or was it more of a 'whirr' and not the radiator fans?

As you'd just switched off the engine, it could be central locking pump struggling, or perhaps your fuel pump is still running (faulty relay).

You need to listen to the source of the noise then let us know :)

Doesn't the aux water pump share something to do with lights? Am sure i noticed something weird with mine recently.

Have you got the water cooled lights factory option? :-)

Isn't there a quirk on VAGs of this era that if the main beam switch is on, the key is in and the parking lights are on the heater fan runs until you pull the main beam stalk? I remember my old mk3s used to do it and I'm sure the rado does too??
