Overheating 95' VR6 Urgent Help Please

Hi,

 

I dont know if this has been covered before, but on my way home, my car seems to be overheating. :(

The oil temp reached 112C (not too bad as I was in traffic), but the water temp nearly hit the red!. :shock:

One thing I did notice, is that the fan wasn't on while the engine was running.

However, as soon as I turned off the ignition, the fans started. (is this normal, surely not!)

I left it a couple of minutes (fans still running), and then started the car again.

As soon as i did, the fans went off, and the water temp went back up.

 

I could understand if the fan just didn't come on, it would probably be the thermostat, and thats not too bad.

But the fact that the fan came on when the engine was off worries me.

 

Any ideas?

Forgot to mention. I have just fitted a stainless CAT back system, but see no reason why this would make the water heat up?

The fan has multiple speeds, there's a group of temp sensors to control each speed. There's a completely different circuit that drives the run-on after ignition switch off, tho it still depends on one or more of the temp sensors, afaik.

Might be a fuse...

Maybe some other folks have come across this before...

Thanks for that, would it run from a fuse in the fuse box, or are there any in the engine bay?

 

If anyone else has even had this problem, please help.

There is a black control module in the engine bay, just in front of the expansion tank (just follow the cables from the fan)you'll find the fuses there.

definitely sounds like a fan controller problem. or maybe the yellow coolant temp sensor.
