JimyJonz 10 Posted January 29, 2013 Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a while during the run up to getting my corrado but never had anything to post about. However 2 weeks ago today I finally got it :-) Lovely Flash Red VR6, only cost me £1690. It's a bit of a project with some small rust spots around but nothing major. Bargain! I'm 19 with 1 year NCB so insurance was a bit of a bitch but sooo worth it. No heres the bad news, on Sunday I started her after work to a lovely clicking sound, and somewhat loss of power on the way home. When home I put a topped up the oil started her again and this time it was a definite clattering. So off to the internet and soon enough I found out I probably needed a new timing chain. Already. So I've done the run of the garages in my very local area, 2 wouldn't take it because it was 'too much work' and I had to leave it at the third for fear of driving it anymore, at this point she was a very unhappy bunny and barely wanted to move. So they called me yesterday with a quote of just over a grand, including a new clutch. I'm guessing bills like this just keep coming with owning one of these beauties? :-) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

JimyJonz 10 Posted January 29, 2013 I do plan to learn about the car and do as much work as I can myself. But this it a much too big job for me at the moment as much of the engine needs to be taken apart, aswell as the gearbox and clutch. I'll just have to think of it as a investment I only have to do once....for this particular issue anyway. It does however include a head rebuild, which Vince has explained includes new guides, seals and cam followers & valves and valve seats get recut and re-lapped in, at the same time & the below is what i was quoted...... 1: Head overhaul, chains, tensioners, cam followers, clutch £1625.00 inc vat Vince was very knowledgeable with sensible advice & it may pay you dividends to give him a call Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Pay what he asks and get it done once and for all!!! JimyJonz 10 Posted January 30, 2013 I would like to take it to Stealth as I've heard a lot about them on this forum, but its my daily driver and Stealth is a 3 hour round trip from where I live. I'd have to get a trailer and driver to get it up there and back, so I don't think I have all that much choice. Current garage can get it back to me by Friday so I guess I'll have to just cross my fingers. Portent 0 Posted January 30, 2013 What have you asked the current garage to do? Have you just asked them to replace the chains or asked them to investigate the noise and loss of power? JimyJonz 10 Posted February 7, 2013 Finally got it back yesterday and my god does it run so much better, even better than before it started clicking. Total damage was £1408, but got a new clutch, gaskets and misc bits and bobs that were worn out replaced. So hopefully I wont have any more of these issues anytime soon!
