91G60 0 Posted April 27, 2004 i just got done doing an auto to manual swap in my 91 corrado. i need to know if i need to replace the wireing harness and ecu. the car will not start with the key but will if i jump the starter.
Supercharged 2 Posted April 28, 2004 I thought the ECU needed to be changed but maybe just a different starter motor?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 28, 2004 You need to disconnect the starter inhibitor switch that all Autos have. It stops you starting the engine if you accidentally have the gear lever in R or D. Not sure where it is on the Corrado though....
skygrowler 0 Posted April 28, 2004 got my auto back seems fine , but i just picked up on this by chance . since the new box went in i have to make sure the gearstick ? is pushed hard forward before it will start probably needs slight adjustment or running in . but does this not point to the inhibitor switch being part of the selector which would go with the old autobox when it was changed and would not be a part on the manual , if you see what i mean , its just an observation really
skygrowler 0 Posted April 28, 2004 one more thing i considered changing to manual and was led to believe the ECU does need changing, anyone know for sure?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 28, 2004 Yeah the inhibitor switch is part of the gear selector but if 91G60 has removed the relevant gubbins, the switch circuit will still be open, so it will need bypassing so that ECU thinks the car is out of gear permanently. I would imagine an ECU change is wise as you say. I'm not 100% sure of the differences between manual and auto ECUs. K
