Car covers

Looking for some advice as to what it best to protect the car from rain/snow, etc. I'm still looking for a garage to store the car in during the week, but I don't think I'll be able to find anything near where I live.

 

I've heard car covers can make the pain sweat and that's something I want to avoid. Are there any other options?

Usefull info if you do a search . I had one from a company called revs west , it was soft on the inside to prevent rubbing on the paint when its windy , it also had three vents in it so the air could circulate and it had an elastic bottom to it so it fitted well and covered the car right down to an inch off the floor .

I had a halfords one for a couple of years.

It's a perfect size for the rado, elasticated bottom and external seems. I was really impressed with it and had no problems with it rubbing.

I think I paid £65.

Cant remember who it was [last time someone brought up the subject of covers] but his oldman specialised in car restoration , and he was saying a car is best left to the weathers , its designed to let rain run off of it and some covers can do damage , but having said that if your car is dark in colour or red for example it does need protection from sunlight .

You might be right about letting the weather on it but I always get annoyed when I give it a wash and polish, only for the rain to drop a load of dust on it the day after! Not to mention the bird poo.

Agreed thats the annoying part , wash ,polish and wax , one down pour and some dust and it looks a right mess !

I've just bought one of the Sealey ones David Wort recommended for mine. It's kept in a concrete garage and although its 99% dry in there, the condensation that drips on the car leaves horrendous lime/calcium type water spots and they are a pig to get off...

Thanks for all the replies guys. This is really useful. Had a look on Revs West and couldnt find any car covers on their site. The one from http://www.everycarcovered.com looks good, pricey but good. Will have to check my budget and think about it. For now the car will have to deal with the elements on its own

I have a Halfords cover for mine. It cost about £60. It is fully waterproof, has elasticated edges and securing straps. Generally quite impressed with it though I dont use it all the time. Its pretty much just for spells when I am away from the car for a long period or when some particularly offensive weather is on the way. I have worried about the effect that the cover could have on the paintwork as it is not soft lined. However, in the last year it doesnt appear to have affected the car in any negative way whilst preserving that 'just washed' look. Good value I think.

Id be willing to sell it if you wanted it. Its completely unused as i planned to put the car off the road over the winter and it didnt happen. Now i maybe selling the car so wont need the cover. Drop me a PM.

 

Ive also got the straps and clips to hold it in place.

This is the one I have just bought and for the money I don't think you can go wrong really. It's obviously not as good quality as the £100+ ones but seems decent enough for the price.
