dobbiej 0 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi all, A while back I mentioned in an old 8v thread that I had just bought a 'barn' find 8v with no tax / mot. The barn element is a bit of a misnomer in that it was basically just unused since July 2011. It has 95k on the clock and is basically a 2 owner car before I bought it. The first owner sold it on in mid 2011. It has a FSH in the sense it was last serviced at 90k and as a matter of interest was one of the last off the line being a 1995 car with a 3993 chassis number. It was Cat D'd in 2006 when someone caught the bumper corner whilst it was parked, but only needed a new spoiler and light and was kept by the then original owner. When I got it, the first thing I did was to take it to my local garage to see where it was in terms of MOT standard. It failed with a long list of brake pipe corrosion, light bulb failure and suspension issues. Slightly miffed at the potential cost to get this lot sorted out, I took it to a specialist near Chichester (GMH Autos). Whilst not the fastest, they certainly know what they are doing with the main chap George having served an apprentership at VAG in Germany many moons ago. They had it looked at with a local MOT guy and it did fail but on 3 points (headlamp and a couple of suspension bits). A bit worrying that my local garage must have been so anal / moneygrabbing. So long story short, I bought it mid Dec last year, it is being given effectively a major service and cam belt change (its second) to get it back on the road. In the meantime, there were some dings and dents I got a local chap to sort out and it is currently in a spray shop having a few minor age related blemishes sorted out. I am hoping to have it on the road early April assuming it stops snowing and will post some pictures. In the meantime I have posted some pictures as I found it. Regarding the interior it looked in remarkably good shape except for the mounting pins for the rear parcel shelf had sheared. I have found replacement parcel shelf components to rectify this but have a few questions if anyone can help: 1) It was missing the warning triangle and first aid kit. Has anyone got a picture of how these were mounted in the boot? I can see a bracket with rubber straps in the left side but that's it. I have managed to get an original triangle so need to work out how to mount it. 2) By the front footwells there are pairs of screw holes for the trim screws; did these holes ever have trim plugs to hide them? 3) The interior is 'Atout' grey but is missing two carpet mats. Has anyone got the part number for a set of grey replacement ones or should I just go to justmatz? Just to add, I haven't even sat in it, I have never driven it, I have never driven a Corrado, it's just that I have always wanted one and cannot believe I have finally got hold of one. I said this somewhere before but I still have the brochure I grabbed from the 1995 motor show. It's only taken me 18 years.... Cheers, Jeff PS Pics are a bit rubbish. Will definitely have better ones when it is finished.
Benjevw 10 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi jeff The warning triangle goes in the centre of the rear seats where the zip is (inbetween rear headrests) The first aid kit slots in the rear hump in the back seats! That's if you have the rear bench with hump(armrest) in the middle! Hopefully someone can help with your other questions :) Ben ---------- Post added at 4:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:54 PM ---------- I've just seen pics and you don't have the rear hump so I'm guessing the first aid kit will go in the boot.. But I'm not sure
James. 9 Posted March 14, 2013 What a wonderful introduction to your car Jeff. I hope it gives you miles of pleasure. Out of interest is the car a 2E or ADY engine car ? In answer to your questions. The warning triangle mounts almost upright against the bracket in your boot. Whilst the first aid kit sits inside the bracket, with the strap pulling it in. The front foot trim did have plugs from the factory, but they are obsolete from VW UK (I must check classic parts Germany stock at some point). OE carpet mat sets pop up on ebay from time to time, so maybe set a saved search. Or swing by your dealer for more info. Sorry, can't get on Vagcat at the moment. james153 0 Posted March 14, 2013 Hello, Very nice looking car, what colour is it? I love the colour. James
dobbiej 0 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi there, To answer the questions: 1) To James cf nutter - yes it is an ADY engine. Regarding these screw holes I am talking about in the front footwell just to be clear, they are a pair in the vertical plastic trim to the left and right of your shins as you sit in the passenger or driver's seat respectivley. There are separate carpet trim screws / pins that hold the carpet where your toes go and amazingly they still have the the covers. Apologies if you are talking about the ones I am but I thought I'd describe them better in case you are not! There is a russian supplier in a dodgy Gatwick lock-up I know who may have some funnily enough. 2) James153 - Aqua blue pearl effect. Beautiful colour. James. 9 Posted March 14, 2013 Yep, we're on about the same ones. I've used small grommets before today. Let me know if the russian has any spares ?
bristolbaron 11 Posted March 14, 2013 A car thats just been sat up for two years sounds more like a nightmare than a 'barn find' Looks alright though and sounds like you have good plans for it!
dobbiej 0 Posted March 16, 2013 we shall see - you are probably right but at the moment it is in better condition than my daily drive.
