Gareth 0 Posted May 2, 2004 I've read that the VR6 strut tops fit my g60 but i know that the spring seats are diffrent. so i guess my question/questions are has any1 done this mod? can i use the original spring seats from my original strut top? or do i need 2 buy a replacment aftermarket spring seat? Any info about this mod would be appreciated.
Mike Edwards 0 Posted May 2, 2004 Yes - just yesterday. I've also done it to the 16v a couple of years ago. You will need: The strut tops (also used on all Mk3 Golfs); The bearings for same; Spring top plates to suit; Nuts to replace the threaded bush used in the earlier type top mount. Which spring top-plate to use depends on the springs you have. You are most likely to need the ones to fit the larger diameter (measured at the top of the spring, where it tapers). The part number for this is: 1H0 412 341. Happy spannering! :D
Gareth 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Thanx for your help Mike.. if i could trouble you sum more. i've been looking at etka and i would just like to conferm all the parts i need. Strut Mount: 357 412 331 A Bearing: 1J0 412 249 Hex Nut: N 022 150 1 Spring top plate: 1H0 412 341 357 412 341 A There are two spring top plates to choose from and you think the correct part is the 1H0 412 341 So i guess i can't use my exsisting spring top plate?? in your reply you said nuts to replace the treaded bush....Nuts... as in two per side?? or do i only need one nut per side?... dis-regarding the selflocking nut as i know i need them. also the strut top plate (stop).... witch do i use? my exsisting one (1H0 412 319 B)... or the strut top plate from the vr6 (357 412 319 B) Thanx Again for all your help
Mike Edwards 0 Posted May 6, 2004 One nut per side. If your existing spring top plates are 1H0 412 34 go ahead, otherwise go buy a set from VW - they're cheap. Your existing strut top plate will be fine - only reason to change ould be if it's a bit manky. HTH :D
