Expanding Foam in front speakers

Recommended Posts

Hi

Anyone tried sound deadening front speaker pods with expanding foam to take out some of the panel vibration and add some compression? Speakers currently have no bass unless I hold the door card tight and take out the vibration.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. The doors internal areas need to be clear to key the window drop down let alone drain out water which would

cause other issues.

I'm just talking about in the speaker section of the door pocket isolating it from the rest of the door so that the foam ends where the door card ends.

if you get better results with the panel held rigid you could try bolting the speaker to the metalwork of the door

Then stop the door from vibrating with some sound deadening, dynamat is expensive so alot of people are now using builders flashing tape, same sort of stuff but cheap as chips ;)

Is there anywhere in the housing where you're getting the sound from the back of the speaker through the front? If so, sealing there'd be the 1st thing to do.

I've not looked at how they're mounted in the corrado yet, but in passats (amongst others!) there's a ring of soft foam (like big draught excluder) round the outer edge of the housing to nominally prevent phase cancellation. If the corrado uses a similar design, any break down of that foam'll cause bass problems.

Just a thought.
