andycowuk 0 Posted May 6, 2004 what rev range and temperature range do you here it in? The charger belt and tnsioner can make a dodgey rattely sound at around 1-2.5k.
bankyg60 0 Posted May 6, 2004 it seems to be at low revs ,but ive just had my charger done at jabba. they done the belt ,and the shocker???
h100vw 0 Posted May 6, 2004 Do you mean you have had the crank ground undersize? If so have the fitted oversize bearings to compensate. I am surprised that a VW crank would need grinding, unless you ran it for ages while it was knocking. Did they replace all the big end bolts? They are stretch ones and can be re-used once but for less than £20 on a rebuild it would be daft not to. The tensioners do rattle at tickover and sometimes higher revs, you could hold teh spring while revving the engine from iunder the bonnet. That would eliminate that. Have you posted in another thread about oil pressure problems? Low oil pressure could be the result of duff big end bearings!!! Gavin
bankyg60 0 Posted May 6, 2004 year that was me .but my presures are ok .and it was my mates dad that done the rebuild i was the one that picked up the over sized shels .do you recken that i should drop the sump and check the shels#?????
h100vw 0 Posted May 6, 2004 Yeah mate I would. Very unusual that it would shag them in such a short time, unless they were the wrong ones????? How far undersize did you go with the crank? ARe you 100% the new shells fitted were correct? Not having a go at your mates dad but the big end bolts have to be done up correctly, first to a torque setting and then I think it is 180 degrees. Maybe one has failed???? Gavin
bankyg60 0 Posted May 6, 2004 i think it was 0.15 oversize on the conrod shells only not the crank shells .ok looks like are have a look sat hope it will b ok for gti international sunday any of you going up . :-P
