WEIRD...engine still runs when key is removed!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi every1,

Just recently bought a 91 1.8 16V corrado. Was fine for a while until now. Sometimes when i turn off the ignition and take the key out, the engine STILL RUNS  . It doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. If this doesn't happen then at least the lights on the dash have to flicker as though the key is in position 1, leading to a flat battery the following morning. Its strange but its true. I'm guessing that there is a short somewhere in the electricals, possibly something to do with the earthing or ignition switch but im unsure as im new to car electrics. Can someone please help me ?

yup, the switch will cost you about £20 from Volkswagen main dealers or around £15 from EuroCarParts or GSF. It's not difficult to fit one on a Corrado, and if you're a DIY kinda person, it should take you well under an hour... :)

Use the search, and there's a thread including a "how to" about them... 8)
