Very rare that's for sure!

Oettinger did various states of tune for the units - you'll have to find out more from the dealer I think.

Basically it could be cams to gas flowing to bigger valve head to capacity increase.

Nice!

There was one for sale at inters. It was a stunning car, and worth every penny of the £7k asking price.

A20 LEE, Was the one at Inters for £7k a dark purple one by any chance, L reg?

Gonna take another look tomorrow, but several things worrying me, primarily insurance costs and future trouble finding spares etc. Don't know if insurers will know what it is and hugely increase the cost etc. Heart over head decision proving a bit difficult so any advice appreciated. Also occurs to me, not sure it was a VR engine after all, but will take proper look at car tomorrow......

Scotts of London were also nothelle agents...........and IIRC oettinger Corrado's were mainly 16v's............perhaps whoever is selling is getting there wires crossed(or maybe its me   ) and is saying a nothelle converted VR6 is an oettinger conversion.........its just ive heard plenty about the Nothelle VR's but ive never heard about oettinger VR's :|

as regard to insurance........unless you go to a specialist insurer(preferably one who knows their vee-dubs) chances are most insurers won't have a clue about what it is ........

vr6storm, Cheers, think it's more likely me who's confused, and it's probably a valver (which is fine with me). However, it does have Connolly leather, and an autobox (which I have never heard of with a 16v!) Will just have to take a look I guess, not too decided at the moment :?

aint heard of a 16v autobox either........one thing it could be is a "X"-tuned VR6 auto with an oettinger bodykit....well worth following up regardless tho

Oh sh#t, think I'm gonna have to buy it regardless of being able to afford it or not! This will be the first place to post the pics of it, that's for sure. :D

the main worry though would be the state of the autobox...........especially if it is a VR6 auto, cos a tuned VR and an autobox don't strike me as being a successful marriage :|

vr6storm, Could be a good point. Shouldn't be too shot though at 71k mileage. Would prob keep the valver as a back-up car anyway :D

Crazymarcel, Cheers, will be nice to finally join the VR club! Just hope I can afford it....ah well, can't take it with you! It seems sound, with a few bits to get it up to standard. Took it for a '20 minute spin', came back an hour later...nice drive! Did put some petrol in to be fair, got a feeling I'll be doing that more often. My only concern at the mo is a leak from the autobox, other than that, and bank manager willing, shel'l be mine

Yep, plate will be getting transferred as soon as possible. Hope to see you all soon at Wagon.

Thanks for reminding me about Woburn...

vr6storm, Ah, now your asking! I've accepted buying in principle subject to everything checking out OK, and as yet haven't seen all the original paperwork detailing the work (at this point thinking you must all be thinking 'hmnn'! Apparently however it was about 20k new, with 11k additional work by Scotts / Oettinger, this was Oettinger bodykit / wheels / exhaust, lowering, Connolly leather interior. Engine work apparently takes it to 219BHP. I'll let you know what I find out, but wil check it all before handing the readies over, at which point I'll probably do my usual and think, did I pay too much etc etc. Especially after reading about Storm Autos being less desirable / valuable. Is this true?! Anyway, I do know I like it! So that's the main thing, isn't it, it is , isn't it , right....? I'm guessing that it's too unusual to judge by normal market values,???

If you like it and it's enjoyable to drive/own and a reasonable price, buy it! It's certainly a rare car ideal for an enthusiast. As long as it checks out okay and is not priced too highly you can't really go wrong mate. Go for it and enjoy!

MoonlightVR, Cheers, I agree. I actually liked driving an Auto for a change, and on kick-down it sure as hell shifts well, otherwise cruises nicely. The only thing niggling me now is the autobox leak, see my other thread today for more details. Asking price with new tyre, back box and engine leak sorted is 5.5k..... good/bad price?! Depends on the autobox leak situation I guess!

if you are paying more for it than a similar age/miles/cond VR6 auto i would try and get it insured on an agreed value basis if i were you, just so you have piece of mind if the worst(heaven forbid) should happen...........cos by the sounds of what you're saying it is indeed a rare beastie 8)

though i would also get that autobox checked out.........best to take it to a well-recognised Auto transmission specialist for them to diagnose and work it into the price cos IIRC somebody(can't remember who  ) on the forum has just had to replace their autobox and they were originally looking at a near £1500 bill to do so......tho IIRC they sourced a 2nd-hand unit and got the final bill to just over £1000.........still alarming nevertheless

vr6storm, Hmmm, not gone for it,..... yet! Keep getting put off by comments about an auto being less desirable and that it should perhaps therefore be cheaper than it is, but then I keep thinking back to the lovely interior, and the great drive......., but then I think of the high fuel prices at the moment, and don't think I could bear to sell my 16v, .....ho hum, reckon I will be going for it just as soon as I can dare to check my bank balance! Thanks for the heads-up on the mag, could be interesting!
