Short Shift Gear Shift Kit

Recommended Posts

Hi Mike, interesting colour, nice car, i like those colours, mine is silver and had to look long & hard to find it!

As for quick shifts, I'd suggest you made one yourself, it's not hard, i've done a fair few now for ppl, and done right will be every bit as good as the £130 kit advertised in mags like Venom etc!

Ask Andy C6 SVR on here how his feels.(gear-stick that is  )

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the compliment :)

Would you believe I wasn't even looking for a Corrado when I bought mine. I was test driving Calibras and saw the C languishing on a forecourt. Of course, once I drove it I fell in-love and the rest is history.

Light Grey Metallic is a lovely colour though, the only colours I'd prefer are Satin Silver or Blackberry Metallic.

Anyway....

Would you be able to post instructions and pics on building a short shift kit. If it's as cheap and easy as you reckon I'm sure loads of people on the Forum would do it.

Cheers

satin silver you say?? :D

i think i like your colour better!

i'm going to respray it Audi's 'Raven Pearl Metallic' ..next winter. the colour is from Le Mans Series TTs, 800 made, 400 in that colour (with complete red leather interior).. or so i was told at the stealer

raven pearl metallic is very similar to light grey metallic in tone.. a little different.

Mike it might be an idea for me to offer en exchange program and at an agreeable cost to do the conversion for ppl what would you say you'd find a comfortable price? for dissasembling, cleaning, cutting, grinding, mig welding, adjustment, re-assembling & posting?

Interested it peoples thoughts!

This is the cheapest & most rewarding mod to be done that improves the drivability of your beloved but long change Corrado!

Hey there. I just got my car running after buying a lot of driveline parts. I install a 100% rebuilt tranny with longer 1,2 and 5 gears also vibra-tech MM, lightened flywheel, and the list goes on. But I also installed a 100% new MK3 Vr6 short shifter with new cables. and I love it. I replaced the shifter that inserts into the tranny with a VR6 unit too. The shifts are much more positive feeling and New shift cables will always improve a car's shifting. The only possible down side to the Mk3 shifter box is that its pivot point sit 1.5" higher and this causes the shift knob to be higher. But I actually like this as I'm somewhat tall at 6'3" and have the seat set back. Now the knob falls nicely into my hand where as before it was a small stretch.

I removed the Cat and the heat shields on the bottom of my car to install the new shifter. While doing this I cleaned both heat shields and it makes the bottom side of the car look much cleaner.

Also on my friends car we plan to install a Mk4 shift box, cables and shift tower(part that inserts into the tranny) Then he can go with the Mk4 SS kits and have the better cable design(better for adjustments). The 02J and 02A trannys are 90% identical inside and it will work :p

i'm thinking of doing a photo journal of converting your std gear-stick into a quick-shift one, whoul this be of interest to ppl or not really? Plus i could do the conversion on an exchange basis if that was a better option!

Offer your opinion please.

Yeah, photo journal sounds good.

Then if it looks too complicated we can get you to do it on exchange :)

I was going to do this and sell the journal on eBay but will try it out on you first! :D

How about getting one from a scrap yard and posting it to me then you just change it one Saturday morning while having a cup of coffee!

Will have to discuss what price level to agree on so you feel comfortable and it is worth the effort for me, covering mig wire & gas, angle & bench grinding discs and sweat etc!!

too bad you guys are not closer because I happen to have a spare shifter box from my car. If somebody could talk G60Jet into selling me the 944T calipers cheap I'd supply it at no cost :)

its not like that. I haven't even talked with Jet about the brakes as the prices are a little high in my opinion plus they are on the other side of the water and shipping would painful. Plus its not the right time for me to be buying parts. I'm trying to save my money for a standalone fuel management system. Jet if you are interested in some parts from the USA let me know maybe we can work something out ;)

Watch out he's been watching 'Fast and the Furious' again

I see the wink but that comment is not even close. I have tried just about every chip tuner available in the USA and I'm fed up with all of them. My car is not on the normal scale of mods. I have taken my car down to Atlanta to have SNS try to build me a chip and I left there refusing to let them near my car. I had a friend go to autothority to have them custom map a chip to his car and they wasted 1 week with his car and ended up just buying him an off the shelf BBM chip(does work too well with his larger injectors) So I'm going to buy SDS and tune it myself on a dyno

Apexi is over there would that be something they would be able to do?

I'm not a 100% knowledgable about apexi I believe its basically a piggie back to the stock ecu and basically just controls the fueling.

But I've never heard of anybody installing it into a G60 digifaant system. I don't feel like wasting the money on it to find out it won't work and besides I want to have control over my timing and fueling curves. Plus with standalone I will be able ditch the distributor and run coil packs. :D

I should apologize about my attitude yesterday when I posted as I was not in the mood for a F&F comment if you get to know me you will see that my car is not flashy but is modified a good amount under the hood

No prob mate,

You're a bit far away for ppl over here to be of much help, however there is a company called jabbasport (has this been mentioned?)

A guy called Michael runs it and specialises in the G60 and can make an accurate map for your particular car if supplied with some r/road data you get from over there, he's not mad expensive and can do different stages of tune too.

If you were to ask, he'd probably sent you the address file aswell so you could make your own adjustments as you like!

I've just written my eprom yesturday and removed the soft cut limiter & moved the hard cut to 7000rpm, injector pulse duration & frequency etc is all adjustable!
