eugopnosaj 0 Posted November 11, 2013 Does anyone know a decent place to get an MOT and service in Milton Keynes? I can do the service no probs but want the book stamped. Any ideas?
VWVW 1 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) I think it will be just as good if you did the service yourself and keep a log of when the service was done and the receipt of the Parts purchased. It will save yourself lots on labour charge..Obviously MOT will need to be done at a MOT station no escaping that :) Edited November 11, 2013 by VWVW
davidwort 0 Posted November 11, 2013 buy a stamp from ebay or get one made up :) just out of interest, which car is this for? do you currently have one with a full VW service history?
eugopnosaj 0 Posted November 11, 2013 David its for the VR which does have a fsh, and quite a comprehensive one at that! Lots of work done at JMR. Last service was over 5k since I bought it and it was religiously done so I've been letting her down but I don't do huge amounts of miles. Less than 8k a year prob... davidwort 0 Posted November 12, 2013 there was a vag specialist in Bletchley (nr railway station/sidings???) a chap here at work got an old rs4 trouble-shooted there and they seemed to know their stuff, not sure if you would make the log book look better with a vag specialist stamp rather than just a local general independent? If you want a VAG one I dread to think what wayside charge per hour labour now.
eugopnosaj 0 Posted November 12, 2013 Vag worx in Great Horwood near to where I work want £285 for a full service and mot...vag tech near screw fix in Bletchley haven't got back to me but they don't do mots. Haven't seen one near the station..
davidwort 0 Posted November 12, 2013 If you just want an mot and oil change then you could do John Spademan's :-) if you supply your oil and filter I'd imagine it would be about £100 and they'll scan for fault codes, stamp your book etc, just let me know and I'll prime them :-)
Hofmiester 10 Posted November 12, 2013 Jesus you guys are paying a lot of money for services down south! Last service on mine was done at MB Motorsport, £50 for the MOT and £30 for the labour to change the oil, filter and plugs that I supplied. Stamp in the book and give the car a visual inspection. davidwort 0 Posted November 12, 2013 I did mean £100 for the oil change and MOT! but the VW dealer will be over £100 an hour labour now, but then they pay stupid lease rates for their prestigious premises!
eugopnosaj 0 Posted November 13, 2013 David can they do Friday? I'm off all day.

davidwort 0 Posted November 26, 2013 Oh good, glad you got it sorted, was wondering whether I dare ask about it :) what did it need?
eugopnosaj 0 Posted November 26, 2013 Nothing detrimental, at least nothing that had happened due to age or parts, it was down to things I'd replaced but needed a bit of fettling to just settle correctly. - N/S headlight needed adjusting (the whole front end had been off and I'd uprated the bulbs so thats understandable) - The battery needed packing underneath to prevent vertical movement : I'd cleaned a re-routed some cables which previously packed the battery up so just used some powdercoated sheets of metal cut down to fit. - Handbrake not efficient enough : I fitted a MK4 handbrake at the same time as the climatronic and ABS pump and the fixing bracket caused the cable not to fully extend so I cut down the cable at the threaded end and no worries. - O/S wishbone showing movement in the bush : The whole wishbone was replaced at the same time as I did the whole front hub, there are 2 bolts of identical length, and diameter the only difference is the colour and the thread length (black vs gold) Realised that these were the wrong way around so swapped them around and no more movement :) There were a few advisories down to the top mounts on the front suspension - these were brand new Bilsteins with Eibach springs in 2010 (by the previous owner) so not sure why they're knackered already seeing as I've done less than 15K since I bought it. And the O/S headlight beam is off slightly (again, whole front end off so just needs realigning). Last year it flew through with no advisories but I'm never going back to that garage as they failed to notice that the inner O/S CV bolts were loose!!!!! Ended up chatting with one of the young lads (18y/o) for about 15 minutes outside about cars and the VR. Your dad said I'm as bad as you having 2 of them!
