coullstar 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Noticed this tonight. Its only been on the car for about a month. Other side appears fine and I have not really felt any difference. More shopping to do. I presume replacing one shouldnt matter?
h100vw 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Not looking good that mate! Changing one not a problem in my opinion. Are you doing it yourself? Disconnect the bottom balljoint, trackrod end and take off the brake caliper to avoid disturbing the camber and having to get the front alignment checked. Takes a bit longer but saves some money. stevemac 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Ideally, you'll need a spring compressor too - or you could just use some heavy duty cable ties, bit of a bodge but I use them !! If it was new when u fitted it - take it back & get a free replacement.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 21, 2004 Aye it's fecked. The general rule of thumb is if you can get a finger in the gap when the steering is at full lock, the TM is kabuggered. You can get a Mars bar in that gap!! Fit some VR top mounts and never have that problem again. K
coullstar 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Bugger looks like both will need replaced. Why does everything happen at once. Can you get these buggers from motor factors or is it only VAG that sell the VR top mounts?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 21, 2004 Old age mate.
coullstar 0 Posted May 21, 2004 I bought them about a year ago but only fitted them 4 weeks ago!!!!
coullstar 0 Posted May 22, 2004 Well I cannot get any top mounts today. I tried everywhere. The nearset GSF place is 80miles away so I have ordered them through thier website. Tried a local place that would have to order and were charging £25+vat each!! Do GSF normally have these in stock as I need to fit them before the track evening on Thr?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 22, 2004 I bought them about a year ago but only fitted them 4 weeks ago!!!! Seriously? Do you drive round with an Elephant or your bonnet or something!! That really is not good..... were they cheapy ones? As I say, fit VR6 ones and forget about them for the life of the car. Yep, they are *that* strong. I changed my VR ones at 83K. Bearings were fine. All that was up with them was the rubber moulding had compressed slightly. That's good going and as you've got a valver, there will be even less load on them.
