Golf mk4 handbrake lever upgrade

I've not long purchased a vr6 which has a mk4 golf hand brake lever installed but not quite finished.

 

Has anybody done this upgrade and kept the centre console standard as at the mo I have the hand brake installed but I cannot see how all the plastic trim fits around the later mk4 lever? I also have dave16v's centre console fix to have a go at over Christmas so just seeing if I have to revert back to the standard hand brake lever or I can keep the mk4 item which is actually really nice as it's cream leather which matches the interior

Just done this myself - follow Rays guide and you can't go wrong.

Thanks for all the help, got it sorted in the end but had to do way more cutting to get mine to fit, also fitted dave 16v's centre console fix while i was at it:-)
