Unresponsive after head gasket...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have just driven my Corrado 16V 1.8 for the first time since the head gasket has been done.

It is not as responsive and smooth as it used to be. The valve timing is correct, and pretty sure ignition timing is set up properly too, I have no idea what it could be :s

Hi,

Is your timing belt a tooth out?

There is a very thorough guide on how to set up static timing over on clubgti:

http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?186796-How-to-setup-static-timing-Useful-after-major-engine-work

I assume you took the cams out to remove the head bolts, are the cams in the correct position in relation to each other?

Check for vacuum leaks, did you disturb the metering head/injectors?

Cheers,

Neil

On a previous car i had a loose tensioner on the belt, whoever did the cambelt didn't tighten it properly, car felt really bad to drive, quite lucky i didn't bugger it really as i just assumed revving it higher would sort things out.

A mechanic that knows all the quirks of a Corrado is worth their weight in gold I've own valvers as well as the G60 and used numerous specialists over the years & no one is more knowledgeable than John when it comes to Corrado's of any flavour
