Temperamental drivers door window.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any idea to the cause of this?

Basically I have noticed my drivers door window is being temperamental.

It works, but only when it seems to want to. This makes me think its just a loose connection. However, whenever I press the button I hear a slight click, like something mechanically is trying but as if something is stopping it going down.

I know it works as I was having trouble yesterday with it, it was clicking when I pressed the button but the pane of glass didn't move. Other times it works fine.

I accidentally pressed ti this morning and it started going down, I thought oh sweet, but its cold so I put it back up. 10 mins later I went to lower it slightly and it had gone back to a non worker.

Any Ideas? The passenger one is fine always so I don't think its a fuse.

I have this issue now & then as well (also with the sun roof).......called out green flag when I was away from home & the window wouldn't go back up & when the fella turned up he just pressed the button & the sodding window went up. i'd only tried about 2hr to make it do that, felt like a right pleb!!!!

Hope you get it sorted soon.

if the switch is OK, the later style ones can get worn/dirty contacts, then I'd suspect the motor, my passenger one will work if you take the door card off and thump it, but leave it a day and it will jam again.

To check the wiring is OK, try opening and closing the door and leaving it in different positions, just to see if there is a broken wire.

Worst case it might need a new motor/regulator.

I bet!

My sunroof is fine but if I slide it, it doesn't like closing. I have to keep pressing the button and it clicks like the window, but only moves 1mm per click, so it takes like 15 mins to close the blighter! I'll just live with the tilt, thats fine for me...

The window I kinda need fixed though. I dont know if its on the same loom as the horn but that seems the same - tempermental, like she's just taking the **** with me. One min it works fine the next, nothing.

The thing is I am scared to open it now in case I get to my destination and it wont close... Like yours did Rorgasm

Has anyone encountered this and found the cause.

My drivers window started doing EXACTLY the same as yours.

I could hear it clicking but it wouldn't go down. Sorted it by pressing the button with the door open whilst banging along the top of the window. Seems it was getting jammed and the motor couldn't free it.

Since then I ran a small amount of Vaseline all the way around the edges of the window and it hasn't got stuck since.

@VR6 Gar, I suspect mine is the same. I am not a mechanic, but since I can hear a click I'm assuming the switch is good.

I just tried banging it and it didn't do anything so I guess I will just take the door card off over the weekend and have a closer look.

I had to properly Tw@ mine a fair few times to get it free on a couple of occasions to the point it hurt my hand, so don't be shy about giving it a good wallop inside and out all along the top edge.
