Si B 0 Posted June 3, 2004 Changing brake flexihoses and bleeding the brakes is easy. It is worth buying some copper brake pipe and some brake pipe unions as well as a pipe flaring tool and cutter (£35 for the lot) to have on standby. The copper unions are often reluctant to come undone and they end up mashed when they do come apart so you often need to make up a couple of new copper lines (not difficult). As for rear axle bushes I can't comment as I've never done this job on any of my cars.
insomniak 0 Posted June 4, 2004 Thanks, know anywhere that I can the copper pipe stuff (tool etc..)??? Ive also been looking for bleed kits (Ezibleed - i think) best price is about £12.00. Are they worth it? I've also seen a diy bleed kit fashoned out of one of those garden spray bottles but to make one would prob cost about the same. http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm
Banana Man 0 Posted June 4, 2004 eezi bleed kits are excellent make the job a hell of alot easier than doing it the 2 man old fashioned way :D You can get the copper brake pipe, unions and flaring tool at most motor factors a 7mtr roll of pipe will cost around £10 and the flaring tool is about £20 from draper but in my experience the hand flaring tools are rubbish the flaring dies always break and they're hard to get replacements, at work we use a vice style flaring tool which is excellent but very expensive. To be honest your better off taking the brake pipe off down to your mator factors if it's an issue and get them to make up the pipe as it only costs a few quid to have one made. insomniak 0 Posted June 4, 2004 As for the hoses - should I stick to standand or go for the likes of goodridge?
Si B 0 Posted June 4, 2004 I would go with the goodridge hoses. A full set of goodridge hoses costs about £60 for six hoses and std hoses cost about £12-15 each so it is no more expensive and they will give you a bit more pedal feel. They also look nice and spangly in the wheelarch.
