edd 0 Posted April 1, 2015 so i just had an online quote from Lancaster for my Storm on a classic policy covering my common law partner (37) and myself (34). Both have no convictions or points in last 5 years. Car currently unmodified. Her a Managing Director and myself a Senior Engineer. Mileage limited to 3000 annual and car left on private drive 250 £excess Quote: £3600.........??!!! wtf I have a Morgan 4.0 V8 insured under similar for a tenth of that price elsewhere. robrado974 1 Posted April 2, 2015 Christ it's that time of the year for me now too . Here we go again ! It really gets in my nerves, I'm 45 years old , no convictions , past my test in 1988 . Live in a good area and people younger than me get a miles better quote . I'm not saying you too are younger , but the amount of chaps on here paying under £200.00 ! I'm going to have to spend most of my Saterday arguing with ins company's , trying to get a sensible quote .
edd 0 Posted April 2, 2015 Try footman James. I was with them a few years ago and had a reasonably priced classic policy, I forgot their name yesterday (age thing) and had to trawl through my previous posts on this forum to find them. I moved away from them a few years ago because I needed a normal policy with business use for my partner for a period of time (but don't now) so went to a non classic policy for a bit and they were not the best for that. still all good now
Jim 2 Posted April 2, 2015 I'm with you, robrado974. The inconsistencies and vagaries about what makes up an insurance premium irritate me beyond the capacity to remain rational about it. But if your car is not a daily and is garaged or kept on a drive, etc then I found a good price from these guys this year: http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk In fact they were almost half the price of some of the other 'specialists' I rang around, and that even includes full european breakdown too. robrado974 1 Posted April 2, 2015 Thanks Jim , I will give them a call . Yes I have mods to the car and need a classic policy as it's not a daily , but it is kept on a drive and has limited miles policy too . £295.00 is too much I think . When I was at my old address it was kept in a locked garage , apparently this made no difference ! And there was me thinking I would get a few quid off for that . Jim 2 Posted April 2, 2015 I got my policy for about 170 quid with all mods declared. I'm 34, no points / claims / etc, 3000 miles a year, and the car kept garaged. HOWEVER. I think they might have made a cock up on the quote regarding the mods, which they've had to take on the chin financially as when my original paperwork came through, it said 'Modifications: NONE' even though I had declared them all. I rang up, they said "No, it's fine.. they're all here on the system" then a few days later I got a second insurance paperwork pack through with the modifications actually listed ;) My suspicion is they calculated the quote with no modifications, and then when I rang up to query it realised their mistake but couldn't actually increase the price as it was their screw up? But it's certainly worth giving them a try anyway.

Be VERY careful with Lancaster when it comes to modifications - I've told my story plenty of times on here but the short version is after saying yep no problem when I took the policy out, it changed to sorry every single one of your mods isn't covered. Almost ended up going to court before they gave me my money back. There's a reason they are so much cheaper than everyone else. Personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole
Jim 2 Posted April 2, 2015 This was Lynbrook Insurance mate - but it's worth pointing that out as I'm sure Lancaster aren't alone in this kind of practice!
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted April 2, 2015 The daft thing is that saying you keep your car in a locked garage seems to raise your premium the most. And saying it's on your driveway won't make it much cheaper.. If you say it's kept on the road, you'll most likely get the cheapest premium. From what I've read, garages are more likely to get broken into, because these days people tend to put possessions in there (rather than cars) And if your car is on the driveway, the potential thief will know that if they break into your home, your car is right there for them to take. If it's on the road, a burglar is unlikely to know which car is yours, so it's less likely to get stolen. Although it's clearly at greater risk from getting knocked into by someone careless, who can't park properly... I hate insurance, they seem to make up the rules as they see fit. g0ldf1ng3r 15 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) I hate insurance, they seem to make up the rules as they see fit. you hit the nail on the head there m8! i rekon insurers just make it up depending on how they feel at the time reason i say that is i have recently renewed my classic policy on my valver. I only contacted the insurers who advertise on here for quotes. one of the said insurers replied this to me in an email when i asked why their quote was so much higher than others.... "Unfortunately due to the area that you live in and where the vehicle is being kept we are unable to offer a classic car policy, we have therefore placed you on a modified car scheme which is the best price we can offer you." the car was stated as being kept on a private driveway - apparently this would be better than a garage according to the previous post & some insurers also, why could that company not offer a classic policy when it was currently insured under guess what....a classic f***ing policy WTF!!?? further to this, when i moved house in november last year i duly had to notify the insurer of the VR & the valver. the company who insure the VR said the policy would be slightly cheaper due to the new postcode being very slightly better than the old one BUT when i spoke to the other company insuring the valver i was told the exact opposite & had to pay an increase PLUS (& im sorry for this becoming a rant) what happened to insurance policies going DOWN in cost as we build up our NCB. The valver policy was a fresh 2nd car classic policy & as such i had zero NCB. After a successful year with no claims etc you would expect the policy to go down in price, hell no yet again the policy cost had risen despite me now having a 1 year NCB on my 2nd car. EDIT: having called the insurer it seems they forgot to put my 1 year NCB on file, they apologised & recalculated a 10% policy discount once the added said NCB. in essence i think they are all just robbing barstewards who try to con the public out of as many pennies as possible & have more excuses than a slippery cat covered in grease to those who work in the industry i mean no offence personally but please do offer your thoughts on the above as im sure many of us would like to know why there is no consistency (i should mention that i understand different brokers use different insurers etc which would equate for some of the anomalies but not on basics such as above) Edited April 2, 2015 by g0ldf1ng3r

You defiantly ain't getting out ! , not without loosing a few fingers anyway lol . Wonder if they will put my premium down if I say the dogs sleep in the corrado ? ha ha brilliant! that reminds me of a classic richard pryor stand up sketch where he is on about his 2 doberman's & a burglar breaking into his house......he goes on that the dogs let the burglar in & even show them where the good stuff is but as soon as the burglar's hand is on the exit door handle the dogs turn into the devil & grrrr 'you're not leaving, we want to play!!' it makes me chuckle just remembering it Oh & isnt it funny how my rant has been up for over an hour & not a single insurer who advertise on here have commented - i think not! even funnier when you consider some of them have been jumping on 'new member' posts within seconds or minutes of a new post so as to promote their business (again no offence directed at insurers on here, i am just stating facts as it would be good to hear an explanation if they are able to muster such)
