delfinis38 1 Posted July 25, 2014 Are the arcan jacks still getting a big thumbs up.... Just about to buy only really looked at SGS and arcan. But like the look of the arcan with the red anodised body.... Any other suggestions. Assume 1.8t is fine for most standard road cars.
Jon_vr6 1 Posted July 25, 2014 Interesting im in the same perdicament. The arcan is cheaper at costco
delfinis38 1 Posted July 25, 2014 Yup just been looking.. I'm not a member but looks like 5% extra if I order online as a none member. It seems a lot cheaper than the identical Clarke from machine mart.
Jon_vr6 1 Posted July 25, 2014 my only put off is the one i wanted from SGS was a super low jack which at its lowest is 7cm compared to 8.9cm on the arcan on. Cant see 2cm making too much ill measure up this weekend

Cant see 2cm making too much ill measure up this weekend If it's the ultra low profile one it weights is 40kg. Thought it was a bit too heavy to shuffle around. Both the equivalent sgs and the arcan weight about 25kg Edited July 25, 2014 by delfinis38
VAG-hag 0 Posted July 25, 2014 My arcan has had some use and is going strong, id happily recommend it.

Where are you based? I live about 2 minutes from the Costco in Coventry and would be happy to pick one up for you and hang onto it till a meet or whatever. Goldie 2 Posted July 25, 2014 My car isn't exactly 'rubbing on double yellows; but is low enough and the Arcan fits underneath with no issues.. I got mine quite recently and its a much improved design on the old one i had. The new one is a twin piston 1.8 tonne lifter and so far so good.. Same offer from me if anyone needs to visit Costco i have a card..

Wesleyvr6 10 Posted July 25, 2014 With the Arcan make sure you undo all the bolts and put some thread lock on them as they will work loose! Other than that there a fantastic Jack.

I've been looking for the arcan website... Are the jacks made to a British standard. Reason I ask as I've never heard of them before

Jon_vr6 1 Posted July 31, 2014 Im going for sgs as its got 2 year warranty
Dox 23 Posted July 31, 2014 I'd be interested in how many pumps of the handle to raise to full height for the Alcan and SGS jacks please
delfinis38 1 Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) Im going for sgs as its got 2 year warranty 2yr warrantee for what I use the jack for ain't a lot.... If I was using every day I could see the advantage..... I suspect I will only use it half a dozen times in 2 years. If it goes wrong I will just buy something else.... No complaints yet from rest of forum..... and by the time you parcel it up and sent it back to the manufacture... you might as well buy a new one.... delfinis38 1 Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) I'd be interested in how many pumps of the handle to raise to full height for the Alcan and SGS jacks please Arcan suggests 5 with no load... To get to half metre..... Not tried it though. Equivalent sgs which 2.5 t rating.... 9 pumps to get to 460mm dunno if this is loaded...
