Compression Results (I'm a happy camper!!!!)

Recommended Posts

Just done a compression check on my VR6 and got some excellent results. I almost think i've done it wrong but surely I can't have. Here they are anyway:-

cylinder - results bar/psi (roughly)

1------ 13.1/190

2------ 13.6/197

3------ 13.3/192

4------ 14.4/208 (!!!!! )

5------ 13.5/195

6------ 14.0/203 (again  )

Now surely if I had not done it right I would have got very low numbers. I

I disconnect the fuse for the fuel pump and removed one spark plug at a time whilst I was done the test. I have to say these results are very good. They should be 189 for new according to bentley!!! and 190 is my lowest result. They are all pretty consistent also (well pretty much). Number 1 is the lowest. Kinda expected that!!! But number 6 is the second highest!!! blimey!!!

Now, most of you might know that I have just had my head rebuild about 2 months ago and a very well known place and I am still getting smoke booting it after overrun and on cold starts when revving. I had almost 100% put it down to bore from comments of this forum but surely that not it. How the heck is the oil getting into the cylinders???? I almost wish it did have bore wear!! (not really!!) but I would at least know what is causing the problem.

Where should I go from here? Maybe I should seek advice from where I got the head rebuild.

I'm really chuffed with the results, but also considerably confused too!!

cheers

Simon
