Drucey 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Hi everybody, does anybody know why my mpg always reads 99.9 on the dash. My car is a 1.8 16v (g) reg. If it's an easy fix I would love to get it working. thanks people :)
MikeyGordon 10 Posted January 23, 2015 First of all I would check the vacuum hose going into the back of the clocks. While you are checking that out, I would check over every other vacuum hose in the bay.
Drucey 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Where/what are they in the engine bay? Thanks for your help :)
MikeyGordon 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Rubber hoses, ranging from maybe 3mm internal diameter to around 12mm. IIRC from the mk2 the mfa feeds from the one way valve on the brake servo hose that feeds from the back of the inlet manifold. I will have a look for some pics on t'interweb to give you an idea if you want? The one you are looking for will be one of the smaller hoses. Possibly rubber hose joining to white plastic hose, going through the bulkhead into the back of the clocks. Sorry if my explanation is a bit hard to understand lol, been a while since I last seen it. Drucey 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Pictures would help me loads m8, appreciate the help. I know if I pull out the clocks etc I'm bound to get 2 other problems and things not working :-( spoiler/speedo etc.. All work fine, don't want to mess them up haha. I'll have a play tho. MikeyGordon 10 Posted January 23, 2015 If you're not confident on pulling the clocks you may be able to see up the back of them with a torch if you remove the under tray. Check the engine bay side first anyway since it is easier. I will have a look for pics now pal.
Drucey 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Wicked, thank you. I don't mind pulling the clocks out, I just know I'll get a spoiler that won't work or the speedo won't work :-( haha always the way.
MikeyGordon 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Number 11 leads to your clocks. I can't find any real life pics that show it in good detail but hopefully you manage with that.
Drucey 10 Posted January 23, 2015 That will help m8, I'm pretty sure it's the clock side of things tho, do you think I may have just come off? Does it just push into place? Sorry for all the questions. You been a massive help tho :)
MikeyGordon 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Aye it does just push onto the back of the clocks, if anything it will have probably deteriorated with age and cracked etc. There is a couple of things it may be, but the fact it is still showing a figure and not just ---.- makes me think it's a possible vac leak. Don't worry about asking questions, it's what we all do and are all usually willing to help. Let me know how you get on with checking the hoses anyway mate.
