paceo 10 Posted February 6, 2015 its on 119k miles, had headgasket, new head bolts, new valve guides, stem seals, head skimmed, water pump, tensioners and chains. does not come with alternator, thermo housing, starter and oil cooler. has pictures of the work done. whats the rough price to pay? its going in my golf vr6 2.8 as my engine is smokey! seanl82 23 Posted February 6, 2015 Has all the work been freshly done or has it been done in the past? Bear in mind that someone on here has picked up a healthy 2.8 block and head for £20, and I also picked one up for £50. They're not expensive or generally sought after, so they are pretty cheap. If the work had been done in the past, it's not worth much more than any other tbh, although if it's still in the car so you can see it running, and there are receipts to prove, maybe a couple of hundred. If it's out already and you don't know the true condition, other than what the seller has told you, I wouldn't pay more than £100 for it without being certain. If it's all freshly done and you can prove its to this engine, it's what you are comfortable with. The work you've mentioned is well over 1k to do if done by a pro, but that certainly doesn't mean that's what you should expect to pay.
paceo 10 Posted February 7, 2015 this is the work done, it was done in december 2014, but the gentleman is going down the R32 engine route, yes i would like to see receipts so will await some pictures, he is a member on here :-) -
seanl82 23 Posted February 7, 2015 Depends what the seller wants for it. It obviously cost a fair amount to get to that state, but it's whether you feel comfortable paying the price they want or not. It's a hard one to judge especially if theyre a member, then it's not right for us to say and possibly hinder a sale. I'm sure we'll point you in the right direction if we feel you are being ripped off though. No one likes to see that and we look out for each other on this forum. :thumbleft:
paceo 10 Posted February 8, 2015 he wants £450 delivered, but as you said about being comfortable paying that price as i cant see the engine running, my vr6 is smoking, if i would see it running obviously i would be much more comfortable but he is the other end of the country to me. Jim Bowen 1 Posted February 9, 2015 I don't like the idea of using Febi parts, am sure they are fine and people will grill me for saying that, but recently done my chains and used all genuine parts and wasn't that expensive really, maybe £
seanl82 23 Posted February 9, 2015 I agree tbh. For something so critical, I'd go for OE all day long if available. I think it's a reasonable price though considering. I'm sure the seller won't be making any money as the parts and head refurb would have cost that, so your getting the labour for free tbh.
