which 16v?

hi there, currently the proud owner of a 1990 8v carb scirocco...but want a corrado too!

 

im looking at the 16v models, can someone please explain the differences and benefit/problems with each?

Get a late 2.0 as the 9A engine is a peach when fettled and you get the later style bonnet, bumpers, fogs etc and interior with a nicer cloth or leather (if ticked on the option list).

 

Take the badges off and it could be a VR, 16V, 8V or G60..... no one would know.....from a distance!

personally i would go for a 1992 J plate late spec corrado

 

there is a few out there and means you can get rid of that CAT without worring about the MOT and like K says youll get the better looking body/interior mods ;) :)

is that a 92 2.0 or 1.8?

 

leanne off no rice said i should come and have a look at your car next month alex if ur at guildford........and the no rice opinions seem to be " go for a g60 or vr6".....what do the peeps here think?

lol yeah my car should have been on the road by now but ive put my back out so havent been able to finish her off :cry:

 

personally if you love the revs 16v is the only way to go !!!!!

 

vr's and g60's rev range is just to small for my taste

 

but then i cant say much as ive gone and bolted a g-lader to my engine but ill still be able to rev to 7000rpm ;)

 

as for cars in 91 they are 1.8's and 92 are 2L's and if you get a J reg 92 u get away with all the MOT crap ;) and have a nice CAT free exhuast system which will realise alot of power ;) ;) :D

so a 92 j will have the 2l yeah? and from reading an old buyers guide in the golf...the 2l is the more tourquey of the 2......and an s/c can always be added after :D

yeah it will but there will be some late registered 1.8 J reg 92 ones leave those alone unless u want to put the 2L bottom on later on in its life :)

 

i remember when i was looking a couple of years ago for my mate we found about 3 J plate 92 plate so you shouldnt have a prob finding one :D

were there many choices of colours/interiors on the 2.0?

 

ive got a set of corrado seats in my scirocco which are black/green i think theyre g60 items...is the 16v similar?

Well they seemed to do about a million variations on the grey cloth.. but they all very similar.

 

Options wise... its grey cloth, black cloth, black leather, grey leather and beige leather.. they are the main ones I think :)

just another quick question on the topic of the 16v....someone mentioned putting the complete kr head on the 2.0 bottom end.....is this crazyness or a proper bit of tuning?

 

also...oetinger heads/engines....myth? or just bank breakingly expensive?

without a doubt, 1.8 16v. quality car to drive, and theres not alot of difference between the 2.0 at all! consider the insurance and fuel consumption, cant go wrong! ! ! ! and it goes!

....agreed, (mind you I am biased), often surprised by how well the 1.8 16v just flies! 8)

just read the oettinger corrado article in an old copy of the golf...soulds like a 2.0l bottom end with a flowed kr head and new cams....

it was an overbored KR (1.8) engine with some headwork and different cams in it... 8)

 

Gave around 170BHP IIRC... 8)

GTI Engineering used to do some nice conversions too. The RE180 was an excellent engine.

 

Out of interest, probably mentioned this before, but used to be good friends with a fellow mountain bike racer and he imported a G reg 16V (small bumper - brand new at the time, yes I'm *that* old) in black from Germany that had *everything* ticked. Electric Recaros, air-con, PAS (not standard on pre-90 MK2s) etc etc and it was a 2.0 litre from the factory fettled by Oettinger. It was not available in the UK, hence him importing it.

 

That car was the reason why I got into VWs.

theres a silver oettinger corrado for sale on autotrader at the moment, i put a post yesterday? cos it was branded oling special edition and i didnt have a clue wot one of them was!!
