robrado974 1 Posted July 5, 2015 I'm currently collecting parts for my underside refurb . The fuel filter housing (bracket) , on the 92VR is metal , mine is a rusty mess . I went to see a mate today who is breaking a 94 Vr and got some parts off him , I wanted the filter bracket so u could clean it up and paint it , to save taking mine off , until it comes to fitting . It was only when I got under the car I saw it was a plastic holder , much better than a metal one and just a clean up and it will be ready to fit . But the holes for the studs are offset , the metal one is inline . Would it matter if the bracket was at an angle ? As long as the pipes are not kinked and I can manage to get it to fit I don't think it would be a problem . Or , if only one nut was tight and the other end not attached , would this be a problem ? There's no weight to a filter , so it's not like it would be a strain on the bracket . Has anyone tried to fit a plastic bracket to an early car ? . Any thoughts are appreciated . Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 5, 2015 Mine is plastic and when i was under car i noticed i have 4 studs on the floor for the filter housing. Thought it was odd as two look welded on. I wonder if some one in the past has fitted two more for the reason you say. I never knew there was a metal housing. Should be fine fitted at an angle the pipes are flexible where they enter as exit the filter
Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 5, 2015 I wouldn't go with just one nut to hold it on. I could see it moving up and down and over time might cause an issue
robrado974 1 Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks Jim , I thought it would be ok to fit . That's strange , that you have four studs . RE the metal brackets , they must have fitted to early cars and swopped in 93 . I didn't know they did a plastic bracket .

I didn't know they did a plastic bracket . my plastic bracket is held up at both ends with panel clips / captive U nut / Speed Clips.... similar to these in this link, then a nut over the stud, stops any movement even before a nut is attached. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/391177530859?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F710-134428-41853-0%252F2%253Fipn%253Dicep%2526icep_id%253D67%2526mtid%253D1673%2526kwid%253D1%2526crlp%253D50600204586_563391%2526icep_item_id%253D391177530859%2526itemid%253D391177530859%2526icep_meta_categ_id%253D131090%2526icep_etrs%253DY%2526icep_epid%253D-999%2526icep_ctlg%253D-999%2526icep_cond%253DNew%2526targetid%253D75951454746%2526rlsatarget%253D%2526rpc%253D0.20%2526rpc_upld_id%253D51874%2526device%253Dc%2526icep_msku_flag%253Dn%2526icep_cbt%253Dn%2526adtype%253Dpla%2526gclid%253DCJWq-MzvxcYCFQ3HtAodA48H2A%2526srcrot%253D710-134428-41853-0%2526rvr_id%253D862029871577 I bought some from VW recently about 50p each, guess most cars are not original theses days so don't have them. may be able to find a part number if you require it. Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 6, 2015 I binned those little clips on mine, they were so rusty and forgot to order new ones, plus they made it a git to get the filter off. I just used some washers.
