got pulled yesterday after doing a supposed 70-80 mph in 30 zone by an undercover mondeo, anyway the way its looking i could be in for a ban or some more points to add to the three i've alreday got. Has anyone been caught for anything similar and what did they get, hoping for points and a fine :( . i know i'm getting what i deserve for exceeding the speed limit, when i was told to sit in the back i didn't notice any cameras in the car, so i'm hoping they have no evidence. I've been advised to say that i was doing around 50 but not over 60 as thats an automatic ban, is this true? does anyone knew roughly how long i'm looking until my court summans will come through.

All due respect mate, what on earth were you doing pushing that sorta speed in a 30? Late, racing, cramp in right foot?! Maaan, don't get me wrong here. I do have sympathy for ya, especially as it was an undie that pulled ya over. But still, 3 points already - the court are gonna make life difficult for you. If anything, just to make an example. :( We all find it difficult to sit at 30mph, 35 seems the norm - even for the corsa toting granny - compounded by the fact you know you are in a car capable of doing in excess of 130mph. No excuse though, 30's are there for a reason - built up area, schools, traffic calming, whatever. They law arn't going to be open minded to your cause, far as they are concerned they've removed another menace from their beat. :(

i wasn't in the corrado only in my mk4 polo was doing about 60mph, guy in font must have been clocking on 80mph in his golf, oh well i'll see how it goes, had a clean liscence for 3 years then been pulled 3 times in the last three months. one way or another i will be driving my corrado

Rite, as usual, your only defence is to prove that you were not obeying the speed limit due to not being aware of it.

So you need to take a look at some of the "30" limit signs around and make sure they're all to the required parameters - i.e. they are repeated often enough, there were large "30" signs on the entrance to the 30 zone, at both ends (or all ways, depending), that they were all clear and visible (i.e. not obscured by trees etc etc).

What was the road like? There's a number of open country roads with 30 limits that are questionable and you might get a little leniency on, but anything in town and I suspect you're going to get a big fine and probably a ban... :|

If they dont have camera's or Radar then you have a chance of avoiding a ban. They will suggest a speed to you at the roadside and get you to admitt to it, so they can present this as evidence in court. They are hoping that you admitt to that in court.

You are entitled to know what evidence they have against you before it gets to court. If they have none and they are relying on two Police Officers in court saying that they estimate your speed, then this I believe stands. You have to hope they are not at court. Then you have sow seeds of doubt with the magistrate and go for either having it thrown out / Go for 3-6 points based upon admitting to doing 50. There are specialist lawyers around, I'd get one.

firstly i agree with the others that is defo too quick for a 30 limit

im not sure if its true but cant you ask to see proof that the speed camera is calibrated if they cant produce that they cant do you ?

also do you use a vehicle in relation to your work if you do it might be worth mentioning in court as they may be more leanient if they think your job is at risk(worked for a friend who was caught doing 115 on the m1 got the maximum points and a hefty fine but kept his liscence)

if you do loose your liscence please dont ignore it and keep driving however tempting it might be, as my father was crashed into by a banned driver and lost out big time as he was only tpf&t

Oh and another thing, they will suggest that they had to accelerate to 80MPH to catch you, so you must be doing 80. If they were stationary or doing 30 then they would have to accelerate to a speed far in excess of yours to catch up, another way of suggesting you were doing substantially less.

I strongly suggest that they will be less idiotic than to try such a completely stupid tactic... The policemen I've met have never struck me as being quite *this* dumb...

But it is relevant to ask for proof of calibration of their car's speedo etc etc.

there's your excuse then, say your speedo was only reading 60, not 80

The police will do it every day on traffic cars, just using a known parameter, but doing it more technically you buy a .. calibrated speedo.. ;)

Use a GPS or even better a laser speed sensor to calibrate the specialist speedo. (You don't usually alter the car's own speedo, just add another one that can be calibrated.)

(Oh and btw if your speedo is signficantly under-reading they will claim it's not roadworthy and impound it...)

... and this will mean you're driving a car without MOT and insurance, if they *really* want to nit-pick...
