Rear Suspension Mounting Bolt

when removing the bottom nut n bolt there was a daft clip thing round the nut thats inside the tubing of the rear axel... my Q is

how important is that clip? as 2 get a spanner on the nut i need that off and i think it will be a cow to get back on as it was a cow to get off....

 

Help n suggestions welcome

if your talking about what i think you are....its a clip to hold the nut so that you dont need a spanner on it, just turn the bolt!

well thats what i thought at first until i saw the nut just turning in the clip so i thought thats a bit S..T and removed the clip n put a spanner on the nut.....

how the hell is that clip gonna stop the nut turning as i torque the bolt up?? :? ..... it just looks stupid to me

The clip is a method of capturing the nut for removal and installation process. All trhings being in good order it works extremely well. Sadly, however the ravages of time and corrosion have eaten away at yours and rendered the clip u/s. You could remove it altogether or replace it with dealer part.
