Sunroof - parks in wrong position

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Sorry to start yet another sunroof thread, but I'm very new to Corrado ownership and there are so many sunroof threads that I can't find one that describes my problem.

Basically, my VR6 sunroof tilts and slides as it should, and the switch seems to work every time. The problem is that the sunroof parks in the wrong position. So if I open the sunroof fully (slide), then hold down the close button the sunroof will close, but it's final resting position is tilted open about 2cm.

Similarly, if i open it to full tilt, then hold the close button it stops in the same place, at around 2cm tilted open.

So to close it properly I have to get it to this point and then hold down the slide button to make it come down the final 2cm, and quickly let go of the button before it starts to slide open.

Any help is most welcome.

Not sure how the one touch works but would use it so it parks where it likes, then take off the cover to access the motor, remove motor (2 bolts), manually crank sunroof to closed position, refit motor etc. and try it again.

I think basically you'll want to do this...

In short, get the sunroof to the position you want it for closed / parked, then pull the motor out whilst leaving connected to the wiring harness, then operating the buttons to put it into the parked position, then attach it again. Should be in business :)

I should use this thread to peddle my Passat switch and surround, which I was told can give any Corrado sunroof a one touch closure feature (but don't quote me on that).

Thanks all. Being a spanner with the spanners I see words like "take" and "remove" and come out in cold sweats, but I'll see what I can do!

You can't go wrong really. Pop the light out and you'll find the trim retaining screws. Once the trim is off the motor will be plain to see. Good luck.

Beyond going to a motor reset, it could be as simple as the 4 torx screws that hold the steel panel to the sliding frame. Those 4 screws are in slotted positions, giving you a little wiggle room to go up, down, front and back. Raise the tilt full open to access.

I had a similar problem that was remedied in 10 minutes by doing this

I'm pretty sure if you take light fitting out .... set the roof to close as you say so it's in wrong position..... but then use the Allen key to put it in right position..... I thought I had done that when I changed the motor

Did this yesterday with my sunroof... wind it to where it stops withe the electric motor... then crank it with the alen key to where it should be... unscrew the 2 screws out of the motor drop it down and press it the same way you did to park it... the motor will turn a little as you manually wound it back to the park possition... re-fit parked motor in parked sunroof. crack a frosty cold beer!
