Spoiler re-working with aftermarket ecu and gauges

Evening all

 

Bit of a odd question for you all.

 

Done a bit of work on the rado past few years and ive done a carb conversion on a abf. During which i changed out the ecu for a new aftermarket and new dashboard gauges.

 

Obviously now the rear spoiler does not raise while i drive. Is there a way of reconnecting the relay box for the rear spoiler to the new ecu/ speedometer gauges to get it to work as before?

 

Or have i commited a cardinal sin and that feature is gone for good?

When you say new dashboard gauges do you mean you added some gauges or you replaced the clocks? How are you running your speedo? I've had a quick look at the wiring diagram and I believe the spoiler module gets its feed from the blue/white wires that join in the junction box (well not a box, those blue/yellow junctions above the fusebox). As long as you have a working speedo, you should be able to get the spoiler working

Hi. Thanks for your reply.

Ive replaced the clocks conpletely and the speedo gets its feed from speed sensor on the gearbox

Is it an electronic feed? You could try, and I'd maybe do a quick Google just incase my advice is bad, teeing off that signal and connecting it to the junction, from memory it's the blue one but I have a terrible memory

Ok thats brilliant. I believe it is electronically fed but ill do a bit of research 😊

What I mean is, the kr was cable so I assumed the abf was as well but if it's electronic then great stuff. That's what the vr6 gearbox uses so nice an easy

Are you sure the clocks work as I had a set that a transistor failed in (twice) and the speedo still works but it stops the spoiler.

 

The clocks have a speed signal in and signal out wire. The signal out goes to the spoiler control module but if the something has failed in the clocks, then I may not provide any signal to raise or lower.

 

Have you got any spare clocks to try out?

Just go back a step, and put your old clocks back in if the spoiler was working before.

 

Like Stuart has said the signal for the spoiler comes form the clocks, so if your speedo is working your half way there. I had blown capacitor in my gauge cluster when it stopped working.

VWs' Self Study Program 101 describes how the spoiler system works (German only - I can't find an English example).

The last pages display the wiring schematic, and it looks like the Corrado clocks dictate _when_ the spoiler operates.

I take it the spoiler still works manually on the button?

 

If you are up for the challenge, look at emulating the original behaviour [somehow]...

Yes, the spoiler works on the button, no problems there.

Would just be good to get that nice feature back!
