VR6 Immobiliser

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anyone know if the signal receiver ring around the ignition key has to be matched with the key chip or is it just between the key chip and under dash immobiliser box? Tia

hi m8

yes it does

if key & immob ring around ignition do not match the car will start but then shut off a second or 2 later

some key you can split apart so it could be possible to swap the chips over - if that is an option

if not it is a recode at VW

Thanks for the reply. Swapping the key chip is not an option. Is main dealer the only option for a re code ?

Ok thanks again. I will look into it. It might be easier to delete the immobiliser.

It is possible to meddle with the immobiliser with full version of VCDS;

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer#Immobilizer_Generation_1

You just need the pin code for the immobiliser.

If you don't know the immobilisers' pin code, it can be 'read' using VAGTacho.

I have got as far as reading the pin code from an immobiliser box, but not actually used the pin with VCDS yet.

If you are near Manchester, I can read the pin code for you - just bring the immobiliser box and a matched key.

Thanks for the info. I have the pin code. A autolocksmith rechipped my keys and tested them and the immobiliser box on his test rig. Car still wouldn't start. Then he tests the sensor ring around the ignition barrel and tells me it's not working. I sourced one on eBay. Car still won't start. I had the car scanned and shows fault code P1570. Engine start blocked by immobiliser

As the immobiliser module "works" with the keys, you could try to re-set the Immobiliser and Engine control modules - follow the Immobilizer I ECU Swapping instructions. BTW, I've never actually done this.

It is worth perusing the Ross Tech wiki page for code P1570:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17978/P1570/005488

it has a few good pointers.

Thanks for the offer. I'm going to speak to my local VW indie and see if he can help me

Finally got my car running. I had the immobiliser deleted from the ECU. Thanks to Vagtronics at Stoke on Trent
