Headlights not working?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

My lights only work on sidelights or the headlights only come on with the main beam, i.e. not just on dipped beam. Is this likely to be the switch or some other relay? It has an uprated wiring loom fitted. Thanks for help in advance.

Paul.

Hi Paul

Sounds like you have a failed relay in the uprated loom - the symptoms you describe are what normally happens if one relay fails

they are a few £'s from your local motor factors & i would advise taking one in with you for them to match it

i keep a couple of spare sin the glove box in case one goes when out on the road

Thanks mate, I thought this might be the case. I'll take it to an electrical place.

Just swap the relays around to confirm the relay is faulty, if that's the case buy a new relay or replace them both for a few pounds.

lol the latter is what i did

easier to replace all 3 relays rather than keep swapping until found the culprit

You just keep pulling relays and trying the lights until you pull the one that makes no difference to the current light situation, the fact the relay has failed usually means they are of cheap construction (Chinesium! lol), so the others are likely to fail soon anyway. I've not have to replace an OE relay in the 25 years I've run my own cars, most of which are over 10 years old when I buy them.
