Magnex Exhaust knocking

Recommended Posts

Is the heat shield a bit low? Maybe lost the circle clips that hold it up?? If that’s all good then maybe a poly bush type hanger would minimise any movement up and down but still allow it to ‘flex’ about??

After viewing your video it does appear to be hitting the heat shield directly above rear silencer, erm how close is the centre section to rear axle beam, as ideally you want a 1/2" gap there between exhaust & beam.

Are all the brackets/hangers on exhaust angled correctly, as if not it can cause parts of the exhaust system to sit close.

To be honest I had that on my Corrado after taking exhaust system down to repair a few things, once I had the system refitted it was hitting on start up plus when driving sometimes.

So I adjusted this, moved that, but in the end I had to loosen the U-clamp from centre to rear silencer, and rotate centre section a bit to get/gain enough clearance.

The other thing to do is to remove the rear silencer rubber mount, just to see how far the rear silencer drops if at all, if it doesn't then possibly the centre section needs adjustment via hangers or may need rotating like mine did. On the other hand if it does drop slightly then this could mean the rear silencer hanger is too short or the rubber mount is pulling rear box up too high ?

Also as RADO87 has said make sure your rear heat shield isn't out of shape or too low.

Hope this helps

Si

I can't view the video at work so I'll try take a look later but my miltek fits terrible, I've lowered my car, not stupidly and it just sits on the rear beam and is tight up to the bumper and even that's never hit the exhaust shield. Maybe make sure the exhaust shield is fitted tightly and none of those clips have rusted away.

If its just over bumps you could try renewing the hanger rubbers?

I replaced the rear hanger rubber with a powerflex one and it still makes a noise.

Some things I noticed after changing the above

When car is stationary everything sounds ok

When driving on a straight road you can hear it hitting something

If you hit a pot hole or the road is uneven it gets worse.

No more knocking is noticed when getting hold of the rear silencer and moving it up towards the heat shield

The only thing I can see is that if I move the exhaust side to side it could hit the side bit of the exhaust cut out on the lower bumper.

The noise is there from cold.

Magnex are not interested in helping me sort the problem and have no info on file of the design of the Corrado exhaust

Driving me round bend. The Magnex exhaust is really badly designed. Why couldn't they just use the original OEM hangers.

Anyone got any info on the Magnex VR6 exhaust?

My magnex was fine for about 8yrs, i took it off twice and fitted it and still ok, but this last time it kept knocking, taken me a few attempts to get it right.

How does the bend sit where it passes over the rear beam? is it more or less central over the beam?, i found my system was too far back and need shunting up towards the front of car to fix it.

I had a look last night and looked at the fitment where the centre box joins the back box and noticed that the bracket was hitting the ABS thingy. I moved the bracket away and it seems to have solved the issue.

I will have a run out in the car at the weekend and report back. Fingers crossed it has resolved the issue.
