CazzaVR 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Got the new VR :D 8) fantastic to be back behind the wheel of such an amazing car  Anyway, the paint on the bonnet is really dull- seems like the laquer has come off. Don't really know much about paint! Is there a cheaper solution than having the bonnet resprayed? The rest of the paint work is excellent. Cheers guys
kvwloon 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Hmm, if the lacquer really has come off, it will need repainting. The only reason for lacquer loss is poor preparation, and once you lose that you are in to the colour coat, which you don't really want to polish. The colour base coat is normally applied without 'glossiness', and then the lacquer is applied on top to give the gloss finish. If the base coat is left too long before applying the lacquer, it won't 'key' in properly with the base coat. I would get a professioanl opinion as to whether it really is lacquer loss, rather than just the lacquer top coat being defective and losing it's glossiness. If the lacquer has just matted a bit but is still there it might be recoverable with elbow greas / cutting compound, but be very careful not to cut through the lacquer if it's still there! Hope that helps a bit!
CazzaVR 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Cheers mate, Think I'll pop it along to a local sprayer and get that professional opinion!
dinkus 10 Posted July 22, 2004 If you still have some laquer left then some Swissol/Zymol type wax might be able to bring it back from the dead.
