surfer.vr6 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Got a puzzling one here? car wont start after turning over numerious times checked spark at plugs cant detect one but car will bump start evey time and there is no missfire when running, infact it seems to be running better since this has happened. but as soon as you stop, you cannot get it started by turning it over , youy have to bump start it, my mate reckons it could be a blocked fuel filter if so where is this located? h100vw 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Duff ign switch would be a good place to start I think. You are saying it cranks but won't fire, is that right. Gavin

surfer.vr6 0 Posted July 24, 2004 yes it was the ignition switch, which was a complete arse to change
TomB 0 Posted July 26, 2004 goshawk, I have a feeling that this has just happened to my 2.0l 16v. Although I haven't tried bump starting it, (I connected the battery to the starter motor to get it fired up) it runs fine. More importantly however, have you (or anyone else) got tips/photos etc for someone who isn't a machanic, but would like to fix it himself? If it's not a simple job, I might leave it to the pros though. Cheers, Tom

TomB 0 Posted July 26, 2004 Cheers Henny, I'm gonna get arrested if I keep starting my car with a length of wire
TomB 0 Posted July 27, 2004 Marvellous, thanks a lot all. I have read the thread and I'm going to give it a shot when the part comes through from GSF. Once again the Corrado forum saves the day! Cheers, Tom
CorradoWannabe 1 Posted July 27, 2004 I had the same problem too - car would just not fire - the ignition switch needed changing - after that was the done the car was fine - i got it done by the VW Service guys and they charged £82 for the diagnosis + part + fitting! TomB 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Henny, you're a star :notworthy: Cheers mate, much appreciated. Despite the fact I have just spent somewhere like 2 hours spitting, swearing cursing and inventing new and interesting strings of abuse for non-moving mechanical parts, the switch is changed and it started first time. No more dodgy bonnet lifts with a bit of wire in my hand. Also stevemac if you're reading this, a big thank you to GSF. I ordered the part about 2.30pm yesterday and it came through in this morning's post. Much appreciated. Thanks to all, despite the pain in my neck, I have learned some more about my car, and fixed it with help from all you fine gentlemen and ladies. Now it's time to go for a drive and celebrate :D Cheers, Tom
Henny 0 Posted July 28, 2004 I seem to remember some choice phrases may have been uttered by myself when I did my switch too... ;) Glad you got it sorted Tom, satisfying ain't it.... 8) :D
TomB 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Extremely :) I'm currently in the middle of moving house, and the last thing I needed was to take it to the garage (even my local rock solid Faber whom I trust implicitly) and have another bill on top of the cooker I just bought... Well chuffed doesn't begin to describe it! Cheers again, Tom P.S Just go back from the 'test drive.' Got a little carried away :)
