KNocking/clunking suspension.....please help!!!!

Recommended Posts

ok guys I have just been looking at my corrado front suspension and everything is looking fine and tight etc.

The problem is every time you take a sharp left corner you get a horrible knocking noise from the drivers side wheel. It's as if the suspension is loose and it's knocking on something when the front end grips.

As I said everything is tight and nothing loose no play in wheel bearings or anything.

It's a 16V just incase you need to know.

cheers.

there's an anti vibration damper on that drive shaft which has a habbit of breaking loose and making nasty knocking noises... :?

Have a look here to see what I mean and possible solutions.... 8)

Actually I read all that before checking the car out but thought it does'nt feel like that at all but then it sounds like the same symptoms....... when you corner hard into a left hand bend. RIght I'll go check that out again.

What does this thing actually do anyway? is it of massive importance? mine did seem a little loose but I don't think it's flying up and down the shaft should it be really tight and not move at all?

Depends how bad the knocking and clunking is, could be a CV joint,.........but Hennys probably right as usual :(

Had much the same thing but when turing right on my Racing Puma, decided to take it to the local dealer to get it looked at, turned out to be a completely worn out driveshaft - at 12,500 miles.

Now been off the road for 2 weeks, Ford will only release parts when the build number and chassis no. is quoted and even then they can't be arsed - seriously thinking of selling it when I eventually get it back and buying another Corrado to keep my G60 company

VW driveshafts are made of sterner stuff than that, but even so, 12,500 is a patheticly low mileage and I thought Ford had moved on from such shoddiness when they dumped the Sierra and Escort?

The FRP driveshafts are just standard Puma (Fiesta) ones are they not, I think its a fairly common fault for them to go but Ford should pay!

I don't know what you meant to do if you increase the engine power at all, I suppose the only option is to fit ones from the ST2000 or is it the Focus RS... (£400 each tho!)

Cured my suspension clunking at the weekend - new OSF inner & outer CV joints + upgrade to VR top suspension mountings !! 8)

I can fully recommend the VR top mounts - far stronger than the flimsy G60 ones

Cool, I think thats what stealth fitted to mine - Am I right in thinking they make the car sit higher than the originals? - that would explain why my Koni's had to be on the highest rear setting to compensate...

Supercharged, in truth - fitting new top mounts will make your car sit higher. Worn mounts sag a little & make the car sit lower than it should.

The VR mounts are much stronger than G60 ones & flex much less when the weight of the car is resting on them.

mine's clunking like f*ck too, I think it's the outer CV joints. I just can't be ar5ed to look at them!
