TomB 0 Posted July 30, 2004 Not an urgent one this as I can tell if my lights are on full beam or not, but I'm curious to know what might be causing it. I only noticed it after my ignition switch started to play up (but before it finally died), could the two be related? All the other lights on the display are fine, could it just be blown (although I thought it was an LED). Still, if it has gone....how easy is it to fix? Henny 0 Posted July 30, 2004 the blue lamp is NOT an LED... this was PRE-blue LED technology, so it's simply a bulb with a cover over it... :| You can get replacements, and they're not that hard to fit once you've got the clocks out... 8) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Henny 0 Posted July 30, 2004 not that difficult if you have an adjustable steering column... never tried it on one without, so can't say if it'll come out as easily... :| undo the 2 screws at the top of the gauge surround. remove the 2 covers in the bottom corners of the surround, remove the screws and remove the surround. remove the 2 outer screws which hold the clocks onto the metalwork (NOT the 2 which hold the clear plastic cover on! ;) ) rock the cluster forwards, and unclip the wiring, vacuum hose and speedo cables (depending on which model you have depends on which of these 3 you have!) remove clocks... 8) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
TomB 0 Posted July 31, 2004 I do indeed have an adjustable steering column, so once I have finished sweating and straining with boxes, I shall sort it out (or attempt to :) ) I'm losing my garage on the 19th so I'm putting together a big list of things to do (door handles, spot light, bulb light etc). Si B 0 Posted August 2, 2004 I have just had to replace this part on my C which has an adjustable steering column and it was nice and simple. Basically exactly as per Henny's instructions. Having done similar jobs on cars with fixed columns the adjustable column makes no difference. The only slightly fiddly part is hanging upside down in the footwell trying to disconnect the wires and vacuum pipe from the back of the instruments.
