timatsorted 0 Posted August 1, 2004 Hi guys I've got an unmodified VR6 and I'm thinking about lowering it and changing the wheels. I'm thinking about a Koni full kit: springs and dampers, or maybe Koni dampers and Eibach springs. Does this sound sensible? Anything I should be watching out for? If I could pick up a kit privately, could any decent independent garage fit it for me? How much would a set up like this cost? (I've posted a message on the ebay forum too - there's a Koni kit for sale on there now.) Also, if I put 17" wheels on, does this affect the speedo reading? It'll show a too low speed, won't it? If this is true, do you just have to live with it, or can you get the speedo recalibrated for the bigger wheels? Is this a specialist/costly job? All your advice accepted with thanks! Timo. 0 Posted August 1, 2004 Koni dampers and H&R springs seem to be the best combination that most people have found, especially members on this forum. Replace all top mounts, bump stops, bushings etc... when you get them fitted. You'll need you wheels re-aligned after you have fitted the lowered suspension. Best done a few weeks after fitting them to let them bed in. Cost:- around 150 for the H&R springs and around 300 for the dampers. Make sure they are the top adjustable ones. Bigger wheels mean your speedo will be more accurate. It wont show a too low speed. My vr6 has 17" wheels on it and the actual speed that I'm doing is 1.5mph under what it says on the speedo and is consistent across all legal speeds. I checked it with GPS. I wouldn't worry about that. Hope that helps Timo.

Timo. 0 Posted August 1, 2004 No worries. Glad to be of service. If you do a search on this site for "Koni AND H&R" you'll get a few threads about that suspension set up. Timo.

vr6storm 0 Posted August 1, 2004 what abt average quality coils,,, will these dtill not be better than the above mentioned setup??? soz jus curious average quality coil-overs will just be that...........average quality........ok they should have the advantage of being able to alter the height of the car and/or adjust the damping.....but if you get a good quality suspension set up using good quality components etc......then IMO thats a better deal than buying average coilovers
