dannyp01 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Right then guys What the best/easiest way to replace or remove the water pump on my G60 as I think the seal has gone ?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 2, 2004 It's a git of a job. Supercharger and pas brackets have to come off, and associated gubbins attached to those. Once they're off, it's easy peasy.

h100vw 0 Posted August 2, 2004 OOOh mate, you are in for a biggie! Are you a good mechanic? This is a long old job. I doubt that anyone could do this in less than 2 hours. The basics involve removing the charger for access to the lower bracket which bolts over the pump. Remove bracket, move PS pump, swap waterpump, rebuild is reverse of removal etc etc. To make the job easier you will need lots of 5 and 6mm Allen key sockets, various lengths and with ball ends. Being a tool snob I spent loads on the Snap On van to make things easy for myself. Personally I thnk you should get it jacked up and have a good look underneath to confirm the snag. It may be the thermostat housing leaking which you can do from underneath, still need to move the PS pump I think. Best of luck Gavin
Supercharged 2 Posted August 3, 2004 Ok, I did mine while down at Gwerks while the charger was off, once you remove the charger bracket its just an 8v GTi... It's worth spraying some Plus Gas on all the charger bolts etc a week before doing the job, makes it much easier to undo things, my charger had never been off the car and altho some of the bolts were tight, it all came apart fairly easily... Make sure you buy a complete water pump from VW (not just the impeller which is more than twice the price anyway and if the seal between has gone then the bolts will most likely snap) and a new thermostat (both come to around £25 and come with O rings) you may also want to buy the plastic thermostat housing and a couple of bottles of G12+
